90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 ThirstyBird (14) Düsseldorf, Germany | May 9, 2013 I visited in early April with a friend and it was so good that we came back our second day. It is a cozy and friendly pub that I believe had 5 taps and all of them were fantastic. They also had bottles including some Belgian selections. The food was very tasty as well. I met Gerhard the proprietor who was very friendly, generous and a wealth of information. I will certainly visit again the next time I’m in Bamberg! | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 jmm635 (82) Havertown, Pennsylvania | April 22, 2013| Updated April 23, 2013 This pub is on the outskirts of Bamburg but definitely walkable and certainly worth your effort. The courtyard in the back was very pleasant if the weather allows it. Large selection of local Bamberg beers. If you can’t make it to every brewery in town here’s your spot to get a nice sampling. The schnitzel sandwich is not to be missed! | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 Brugmansia (256) Jylland, Denmark | April 17, 2013| Updated April 23, 2013 Visited several times, a bit of a walk from citycenter, but for sure worth the walk :-)
Nice selection of german beers, friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. The times i have been there ( mostly mid day ) it has never been to busy. There are a nice beer garden as well, and parking is possible nearby.. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 sic1314 (229) Leiden, Netherlands | April 7, 2013| Updated April 23, 2013 Visited near the end of the evening, so not very busy. Reasonably large with soem ambiance even when not busy. Interesting beer range for Germany, well worth at least one visit. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | March 8, 2013 Visited a couple of times over the last weekend of April ’12.
Got to rate this as one of the best (certainly the best for ticking good/intersting stuff) beer venue I’ve been to in Deutschland - forward thinking, great range of beers - particularly the bottles from Weyermanns and an interesting range on tap from around and about Franconia.
Gerhard came and introduced himself on our 2nd visit of the weekend (Saturday afternoon in the beer garden) and kindly shared a bottle with us and had a chat about beer.
Service was good also.
Top venue! | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 swoopjones (230) Buffalo, New York | March 1, 2013 decent spot, nice bartenders, selection was pretty good. comfortable ambiance, worth stopping by | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 MacMoney (57) Alabama | February 5, 2013 A small café style place on the other side of the tracks. Serves food and drinks as well. They’ve gotten it all quite well together. Staff is superbly nice and know their stuff around beer. Used to beer tourists as well. Food is good, prices are cheap and have a good selection of local and rarer Germans as well as the pilot brews of Weyermann and some Belgians. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 bartlebier (7) , Germany | January 21, 2013 Convivial, half student style dig, half brewpub with interesting local and some harder-to-find German beers on tap, a good 15min walk south of HBf/(city centre).
Worth the walk if you are interested in the very slow developments in German beer culture off the beaten "Brauhaus=Haxn+Reinheitsgebot"-path and donot care for "Sky"football bars.
The lack of options is still astounding in South-Germany and not even nearly catching up with the timid craftbrew evolution of the last 5 years.
So sadly, it doesn’t seem to attract that big a local beer enthusiastic/beer-savvy crowd and many tables were occupied by friend cliques playing board games and drinking draught pils.
Asked the waitress if anyone ever orders one of their rather rare and pricier Belgian bottles (Lindemann’s Cuvée René...) , who said she hadn’t served any yet that day (SAT, 23h00).
- Nice young staff, good pub food in ample portions, interesting small Weyermann selection: the (D/I) IPA is one of the most convincing German IPA’s I’ve had; Schlenkerlas Urbock on tap (not to be had at the Schlenkerla Brauhaus itself that day/?in winter). | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 jorge76 (55) , Italy | November 20, 2012 great place .. visited late night i a mid week day and it was full of girls and boys enjoiyng good beers.. i had the zehendner lager and it was amazing like in the brewpup outside bamberg... it deserves a it’s high rating | 98 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Hoppe1 (3) , | October 29, 2012 This place has the best beer selection in Bamberg, and you won’t find it on the tourism bureau guide to Bamberg Beer Culture as it isn’t a brewery. Close to the train station, here you will find local beers from small breweries in the countryside. You don’t find those in the typical Bamberg bier keller as they naturally focus on their house beers. At Cafe Abseits you will find beers with HOPS! Beers from German brewers who are pushing the envelope. American hops with bold citrus notes. You’ll also find some nice Belgian beers. The widest range of local German craft beers in Bamberg, and good food to boot. In nice weather the small bier garden is delightful, as is the charming and knowledgeable owner Gerhard. This place has heart and soul! Highly recommended. |
