Good atmosphere, decent service (as we were sitting at the bar, we didn’t have to wait long for anyone to serve us) and more than decent selection. Only downside was that the draught Keyte was quite rancid and sweaty (schraal), while when we got to taste it in another place it was much better and fresher, and I’ve heard stories of the same happening to other beers. There seem to be too many taps for the amount of visitors at the end of the season, cleaning taps should be better.

Selection is good, lots of choice and nice selection of lambics. Overall price-level is pretty decent and acceptable, though some of the bottles are grossly overpriced all of a sudden: do check the beer list before ordering to prevent surprises.

We had a pleasant evening there, and if we wouldn’t have encountered the tap problem, marks would have been quite a bit higher.

Best selection in town. Very close to the seafront. Good selection of lambics, some years ago here i’ve drunk my first Cantillon

Went there when visiting a friend of mine. Although it is a large place it is still super cozy. Loads of wood, walls are decorated with advertising signs. The service is quick and friendly. The selection is enormous, but the menu is a bit unhandy. The prices are normal for a city like this.

Loz and I went here for the first time on Saturday 9th June 2012. This is quite a large bar with upstairs area as well and quite nicely furnished. The beer choice is excellent, I didn’t count but I note that on here it states 330 and that would seem a very fair estimate. I had a De Cam Oude Gueuze (I think that is what I had) We also ate here and I must say the food was excellent and very reasonably priced. I had Beef Carbonade cooked with Westmalle Dubbel, Loz had meatballs cooked with Bougogne de Flanders, both were really tasty meals the sauces/gravies of both were wonderful the respective beers had really left their mark. If I had one criticism is that the girl who served us was quite cold and unenthusiastic, and really didn’t give out any positive vibes, she only perked up when it came to the bill being settled, I have to say the bar is very good, food very good, beer choice also great but service really let this place down sadly especially when compared to ’t Eilandje which had the most lovely and welcoming gentleman serving you and appearing to run this place on his own. I note that others have commented on the service here and expressed similar thoughts, if this was improved I think that this place would be an all round excellent bar.

English style Café Botteltje has by far the largest beer selection of any bar in Ostend, both on draft and bottle. The food menu is also very good, with a special 3-course beer dinner pairing beer and food very nicely. It’s a little less personal than ’t Eilandje and De Bistronoom but if you’re looking for a place to explore a vast range of Belgian beers in Ostend, this is the place to go.

An old school café with a beautiful wooden interior and an extensive beer menu. You can find a couple of rarities in there, but be aware that a few of them are listed but not available. Also, I must say that all my beers were served with extra-sediments, the yeast cake floating freely all over the bottle... It’s the only place in Belgium where I had this problem, and it ruined my tasting experience completely. Plus, I’m not a fan of commercial radio. I don’t think the last hit of Britney Spears is an appropriate soundtrack for a tasting session in an 1900’s café. Disappointing.

Any bar that has La Chouffe, Kwak, Brigand and Westmalle Dubbel (and others) on tap does it for me. We visited three times during our stay in Ostend; this was by far the best bar we found. The staff are very helpful, the main food menu is only in Flemish, but they are more than willing to translate for you. The place is like one of those ’English Pubs for Europe’ that were exported in the 70’s (you ordered by room size and a lorry turned up with interior walls and fittings to fit). This bar had loads of Continental add-ons though, making it a very fine and interesting bar to drink and eat in. The food was good, I had a beef stew cooked with Westmalle Dubbel. There is normal snacky food too, this can be found in the beer menu as well as in the food menu, which covers a greater selection. The restuarant which used to be joined to the bar is now closed, hence the larger menu in the bar. A small warning though. The beer list is huge and one evening we choose to attack the ’winter beer’ list and decided on beers we had never had before. Both were well out of date, great for those that like aged beers I suppose. My beer was a murky sludge and I spent sometime on the toilet the following day. It didn’t matter though, because my wifes beer had an aroma and taste of lemon washing up liquid, so she cleaned up after me! The tap Triple is the local ’Keyte’ and I couldn’t get on with it, I have a bottle to review latter, I hope it has more flavour than the one I had in here. The beers do come very cold, but they soon warm up (if you let them sit awhile). Worth going to Ostend just to use this place, even with the little hick-ups I’ve mentioned.

Great place to have a beer in Ostend. So if you skip the Leffe Café on the "Wapenplein", you can go there and enjoy a good beer ;) Prices from the draft beers are ok, but the Geuzes are a bit expensive...

Very nice place not far from the beach. This place has a broad selection of beers. Nice to visit after a long walk on the beach of Oostende.

Nicest place in Ostend to drink a beer.
