Nice cozy bar, with a nice diverse selection of mostly Dutch, Belgian and British beers. Focus on craft beer. Great list of special lambics. Prices are reasonable. Good place.

Last stop in the Netherlands before heading home. Glad i stopped here! Amazing list of beers, a lot of Lambiek and very nice local microbrews. Erik, the owner (?) is very friendly and advises well on beers. He had me go in the cellar to have a look, very nice. First ’bruine kroeg’ where they serve such great beers. Also some very rare, unknown stuff. Will definitely go back to utrecht to go to De Rat. Oh yeah, they have a very good sausage aswell.

Stopped in here after a beer festival in the city. It took some weaving to get here from our hotel, so thankfully our guide knew where he was going. The bar is very cozy, and has a lot of what I expect of most european pubs that have been around a long time. One thing I thought was unique, was that they have two house cats that come in and out at their leisure. They have a predominantly dutch tap list and a nice bottle list as well. If you ask, they also have a lambic bottle list. I was able to get a bottle of HORALs mega blend for a very reasonable price. If ever you are in Utrecht, take the time to find this place and stay here for awhile.

Small and cozy little pub. Bartender was friendly and quick to offer suggestions. Pretty good selection, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of Gueuzes. Unfortunately a very large group of tea-drinking students arrived, which ruined the cozy ’local’ beergeek atmosphere. Will return here, hopefully it will be less crazy crowded then.

A great place. Quiet but not deserted midafternoon Christmas week. Two cats, no waiting. Framed dessicated rat on the wall. Not a lot of taps but a very nice selection (lots of bottles, but we didn’t try any.) Good recommendations from the barkeeper, useful since they had Dutch micros this Californian had never heard of. If I lived in Utrecht I’d spend a lot of time here. I should mention: the barkeep asked "how did you find us?" and when I mentioned ratebeer.com he said "oh yeah, that got me through Canada last year."

Nice little pub in Utrecht. Visited in the early evening.
Frequented by a nice mix of locals and beer geeks. Nice ambiance, great beer list, even some decent ciders, and an impressive lambic list for a Dutch pub, especially as lambic (or any sour beer) doesn’t usually get much love in this part of The Netherlands -yet-. Tap list included local Dutch micro and more exotic English and Danish choices. Recommended!

A really very nice and cozy old pub. Great service by the owner - who loves/knows what he’s offering you. Small range of beers - but good on the lambics and The Kernel on tap! Good spirit range - jenever, whisky. Prices fair. Recommended.

Visited the 27th September 2014 after the Borefts 2014. For me the best place in Utrecht. On the city center this small place has an amazing beer selection, with good beer from Holland and others countries on bottle. The service is really great and the ambiance is amazing. People there was really friendly. The price are smart and the decoration is nice. I really recommend this place, the best one in Utrecht.

Visited with friends on a Monday afternoon. Small old place downtown Utrecht near the station. We weren’t alone in the cafe but there was seating room. Really nice cozy ambiance. The owner was super friendly and we had an amazing time, he really knew his stuff and you could tell that he really polished the selection in his bar. We actually came to taste jenevers but ended up tasting those, a rum and a couple of lambics as well (nice selection, including lots of de Cam). The belgian beers are made up of a list of classics, but if you’re into spirits and/or lambic as I am, then this is certainly the place for you. Prices were quite reasonable. Great place, I will most certainly be back.

Beautiful old pub, mostly locals. A decent selection of draught beer and an impressive lambic selection for the Netherlands (especially a small town such as Utrecht) for cheap prices. Very good spirit selection, The owner is very knowledgeable, passionate and friendly. We had a very nice Jenever tasting (1/3 pours). I definitely recommend this place.
