My favourite beerbar in Utrecht! (In Dutch: stamcafe) It’s always fun to be here. Great selection of Belgium and Dutch (!) beers. 6 taps, chance very often, so be quick when you want to drink your favourite beer. When you prefer something sweet, just ask the secret Geuze/Lambic list behind the bar.
The bar is named after a dead rat that was found in the cellar. The rat now has a special place on the wall.

A limited portfolio maybe, but during my (short) visit beers from Mommeriete, Maximus and Christoffel were available from tap. Limited but excellent choice of bottled beers. Friendly service. Value for money. I’ll be back!

A small, rather messy place, but I can imagine it can get cosy when more people ar in. The selection was really disappointing for me. The two first beers from the list I asked for, were not available. And the girl behind the bar didn’t seem to know much about beer. This place should not be in the Utrecht top 3. Sorry.

Nice atmosphere. Good service . 6 good taps and a few decentbottled beers. Belgium has a better selection in my opinion.

One of the best beerpub sin the Netherlands. Great atmosphere, friendly service, interesting selection (lambic/geuze, nice taps) - this is a gem.

Cafe Derat is a very cosy bar situated near the center of Utrecht. The barman, Eric, is a specialist and makes you feel right at home. The locals treat you just as anyone else and this is the finishing touch to create an atmosphere you don’t feel like leaving. If you want a quiet stay or an endless discussing about beer, either way cafe Derat will fill your needs. Eric selects the beers himself and it is always a pleasure to find out what beers are on tap. (they change often). I’m quite sure it won’t be long before my next visit, and the one after that. See you soon!

Derat’s a small pub located not far from the main tourist canal in Utrecht. The ambiance is cosy, inviting. This place feels like its been around forever. The service is friendly. The proprietor approached me as soon as I entered the bar, and was quick to offer suggestions and advice. The selection is OK. The taps featured some rather mediocre Dutch micros. The sour bottle list, however, was more interesting. The pricing was a bit uneven. Some beers seemed to be good deals, others were priced pretty high. Overall, this is a good place to spend an hour or two. Recommended if you’re in Utrecht.

Visited August 15th. Fun little neighborhood bar that fills up with a great local atmosphere. Plenty of Belgian beers, again, would have enjoyed a bit more Dutch beers. The owner Erik sat at our table brought us samples from a small Oud Beersel Cask and later accompanied us to a restaurant. A few British beers were available in ltd qty from Erik trip in Kent. A nice whiskey collection is also available with some nice little gems hidden upstairs.
Fun place nestled just out o the busy touristy Oudgracht steert.

Super little back street bar with a small but eclectic beer selection. Friendly and not typically Dutch. For spotters of the unexpected, also has some of the local Uwe cider available in small batches. Revisited June 27th 2013. Was expecting to rate De Drie Herzen over this, until I walked in and found 3 new breweries on tap..

Small place with cosy ambiance. Owner Erik is very dedicated. On request he organizes beer and whisk(e)y tasting sessions upstairs. Much variation in unusual draught beers from small breweries. Special evenings with live music, poetry or ‘disc-jockeys ‘ playing all kind of music, inter alia French chansons and Rock and Roll from the 50’s and 60’s. If you’re lucky you can hear on a Tuesday evening a choir singing tear-jerkers. Note the large ringing bell from the Whitechapel Bell Foundry (1871) hanging from the wooden ceiling above the wooden floor. A unique bar – also for Dutch standards.
