Visited september 2013. A very cosy, busy place. Great beer selection, both on tap but mainly the bottlelist was superb. Very friendly and serviceminded staff, that knows stuff about beers. Beers are well served and in good condition. The celler is under one of the tables, so when it is time to change a beer, guests have to move a bit around, but that then gives you the chance to have a tour around the celler :-)

(Visited July 2013) Nice pub just south of the city centre, and just a couple of minutes walk from De Drie Dorstige Herten. Traditional corner pub with worn brown wooden tables and chairs.Friendly and knowledgeable service. Beer selection is not massive, but well chosen. Six taps, mainly Dutch micros and a couple of Germans. Interesting selection of bottles. I had slightly higher expectations, but they had limited opening hours during a couple of July weeks, so I suppose it could be of even more interest. With a couple of good new ticks, a small selection of friendly fellow beer geeks, some serious blues in the speakers and the house cat sleeping on my table, I can’t really complain about ambiance and home feel. Will be back when they’re running on full speed.

An excellent local Utrecht bar that me and my father stumbled into completely by accident on a cycle-tour around the Netherlands. Both being serious real-ale and cider enthusiasts, we couldn’t believe our luck that we’d found this amazing bar run by an evangelist for top-quality British craft beer, Erik! We had a great night drinking more beers than I care to remember with our friendly host, but the real revelation was the fantastic Dutch beers that we trusted Erik to provide us with, choices that he supplemented from his vast range of bottles and drafts. Top quality beer, chatter and atmosphere, the only thing I could possibly ask for was perhaps a few more bar snacks, but I understand Erik didn’t open the place to start up as a Chef, so that’s forgiveable. Check it out! Missing it already.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon. A cozy "Bruin Café" with a nice mix of tap beers from small breweries. Decent bottle list, didn’t ask for the gueuze list b/c I don’t really care for them, but they had some nice stuff on the temporary beer list. Fair prices. Really friendly talkative owner(?) who let us sample some great whisky as well. Will definitely revisit.

Small cosy bar. Good bartender with ample knowledge of the beers. The selection is not that extensive, but they have some surprising Dutch and Belgian beers (at least, when we were there. I got the impression the selection changes a lot).

Great bar! Went there on a Saturday night, together with Dutch friends. Wide variety of nice Dutch beers. Availibility depends on what they got from the brewers; i.e. the card is not always updated, but hey, it’s a wonderful place! And WAUW... the beer menu for lambics and old gueuzes is a true example for about 99.9% of Belgian beer bars! And the way they market it is just fantastic (sorry for the non Dutch speaking people): "Geuzejeuk? Vraag onze kaart!" (If it itches for gueuze, just ask for our special card’). Grandiose!

Tiny and slightly eccentric bar just off the central canal. The draught and bottled beer selection was a standard mix of newish Dutch brews and old Belgian favourites, nothing all too exciting. The list of lambic beers is excellent though and very fairly priced.

Quite small cafe with seven taps and about 30 beers on bottles. Good crowd on a Sunday evening. The owner Eric was very nice, but beer wise I’d recommend Kafe Belgie.

Stopped here twice while in Utrecht. The place is basically an old house with a bar in it, not the nicest ambience but has a bit of charm, there are also a few cats running around. Eric, the owner, is super cool and really makes this place. Upon our arrival Eric brought us a couple of samples of the draft selections. Selection was ok, just a few drafts and a nice bottle list. It wasn’t super apparent what was available and you almost had to hunt down lists off of random chalk boards. Value was ok, beer in the Netherlands was pretty expensive overall. This place was filled with locals, but Eric made it inviting. The second time when Eric wasn’t there was not as much fun.

My favourite beerbar in Utrecht! (In Dutch: stamcafe) It’s always fun to be here. Great selection of Belgium and Dutch (!) beers. 6 taps, chance very often, so be quick when you want to drink your favourite beer. When you prefer something sweet, just ask the secret Geuze/Lambic list behind the bar. The bar is named after a dead rat that was found in the cellar. The rat now has a special place on the wall.
