This place is very often packed, I finally managed to get a seat on my third visit. It isn’t all that surprising considering it is a very plesant bar to sit at. Well located in center Amsterdam, easy to get to from many areas. The ambiance is quite enjoyable, laid back very vintage bier café. Didn’t see/try any food unfortunately. The selection was soso - nice varied selection of Belgian beer bottles, but nothing out of the ordinary: all the usual trappists, karmeliet, chouffe, Saison Dupont and Boon lambics. All good stuff, but just nothing needing to go to this particular place. The draught list was also a bit boring, not many dutch micros, lots of belgian macros. Overall I’d say this place is definitely a cool hangout, is worth it if you’re staying a few days in Amsterdam, but as a beer geek you don’t need to sweat it to try this place out. Amsterdam has way better to offer.

I had my fist westvletern at this place. Amazingly cozy pub, with a big selection of belgian beers. Great ambiance but can get very crowded since it’s small.

Gollem is a delightfully old fashioned brown cafe in a side alley between Singel (one of the central ring of canals) and Spuistraat. It has a great beer list with about 15 taps and numerous bottles. It’s full of character. The bar is downstairs and there’s a small mezzanine balcony overlooking it. The mismatched furniture is dark brown wood and there are bottles and tin plaques lining the walls alongside the blackboards listing the beers. The furniture looks home made, as do the simple wooden slats which have been installed over the bar to hold the glasses. There’s also an intriguing box with slots, each of them labelled with a person’s name. It turns out that until about two years ago locals could have a tab; their receipts were put into the appropriate slots and they would settle their bill on a monthly basis. All in all it’s a great place (although I have to say I wasn’t overly enamoured by the barman’s choice of music, which was dreadful French torch crooning).

Visited september 2013. What a great place, cosy relaxing atmosphere, friendly smiling staff, and a great beerselection as well :-).. Being close to the train station an ideal place to start a sunday pub crawl in Amsterdam. Beers served in good condition, really a great beer spot to visit.

After numerous attempts at visiting this place over the years were foiled through poor timings, it being closed for a while etc, we finally managed to get here on Monday 30th September 2013. You enter abd tge bar is immediately in front of you to you left. This place reminds me a little of the small bar in Antwerp near the church in the centre, that place also has a small upper floor where you can look down on the bar area. Beer wise it was great to see the likes of Dochtor de Korenaar Belle Fleur and Troubadour Magma Galaxy Hop version on tap both were great. This bar is very small and dark and would be a great stop off in the depths of winter. Really liked this place and being so close to Bier Temple and Bier Koning it us in a great beery area.

First time visited since it re-opened. Was very quiet (a Wednesday in February, but still), the beer range seemed very old and jaded, especially those on tap. Very little ambiance, a sad decline - hope it can recover. Revisited July 2013. Getting better again, still not very busy.

A v cute little bar and a good selection but is pretty blokey although I drank wine the night we visited and the barman was v accommodating so he gets extra ticks for that.

A really cool, tiny Belgian beer bar. They have a lot of Dutch beer as well. The bottle list is interesting, but they were out of a lot of things. They had Chimay Rogue on draft when I was there.
