Visited with beer buddy Marius. Although I lived in Arnhem since 1964, first time ever. Not too crowded and place closed at 19:00. Situated in shopping area, so after shops close, no activity. Service did not know about beers, and further several of the beers listed are not available. OK, it’s reviewed now.

Visited today, on a relatively warm day, at least for the Netherlands. Right in the centre of the town, it has some tables outsode but the sunshine was blocked at the time by the nearby buildings so I prefered to sit inside. Big windows in the front, allowing you to look at the street outside. Inside what you see is a narrow place with quite a few wooden tables, very close to each other. I took one by a corner after ordering my beer. The service was very friendly and smiling, fast too. They offer some peanuts as well with every beer. They had 8 beer on taps and some bottles, all written on chalkboards behind and around the bar. I didn’t count but I guess they have about 30-35 beers on bottle, mostly belgian choices. After I ordered I wasn’t bothered anymore by anyone for a chit chat, which I find very positive. The prices were quite okay I guess, considering also how central this place is. I didn’t see anyone eating and I think they don’t offer any food although I may be wrong. Theu do have some snacks for your beer though, like chips, nuts. olives etc. Checking their opening hours I think they are more interested in the shopping crowd to come in, have a coffee or beer and go out quickly, something I noticed also on the behaviour of the customers, one drink and they were gone. In no case though is the personel trying to push you out. Quite relaxed atmosphere, I’d pop in again if I had time and was around the corner.

We visited on Monday 1st October 2012 and I have to say I rather enjoyed this place. I must confess that I am not 100% certain on the tap and bottle numbers, though there was a nice selection with a few interesting beers on tap and bottle that I hadn’t seen that often elsewhere in the Netherlands. I had a Bronckhorst Nightporter (I think it was the peated malt version) Loz a Rochefort 10, prices were quite reasonable considering the central location and service very good and very friendly. The bar inside was quite small and laid out in an oblong with a large window area looking out onto the pedestrianised street. We sat outside and I must say one thing that did impress me was that the bar used the grey lintel of the computer shop opposite to chalk on what beers they had on tap in the bar, this was especially handy for those of us sat outside and those who sat looking out of the large window, a novel and clever idea I thought. I would happily visit here again if in the area and was surprised that it wasn’t already listed, ok so it doesn’t have the selection of Cafe Moortgat but it certainly is worthy of inclusion of any beer stroll around Arnhem in my opinion.
