Deze vrijdag ben ik voor de zoveelste keer naar café Métropole in Brussel geweest. Ik ging daar altijd graag naartoe omdat het zo een chique café is. Ik wist wel dat de drank daar veel duurder is dan in andere cafés maar ik dacht voor zo een mooi, nostalgisch plekje wil ik een paar euro’s meer geven. Echter deze vrijdag was de laatste keer dat ik er geweest ben. Ik heb een Martini besteld en ze hebben me een potje met een mix van crackers erbij gegeven. Plotseling had ik een zeer harde noot in mijn mond. Het bleek echter geen noot te zijn maar een opgedroogde olijvenpit dat iemand anders al in zijn mond gehad heeft. Duidelijk smijten ze de overschotjes van de klanten bijeen en serveren het voor de volgende klanten. Walgelijk! Ik heb dit aan de ober gemeld en ze hebben zich zelfs niet geëxcuseerd. Onaanvaardbaar gewoon!

Awesome café in a spectacular hotel of the same name that would be a better fit in a tourist guide for its sumptuous decor than as a RB place. Hundreds of places have better selection if if architecture is your kick, seek an architecture geeks website or go to Mort Subite where the selection, while already very limited, is vastly superior.

Again, one more sport that’s not worthy of being on RB. I am just tired of people adding every corner bar and bar patio they come across in Brussels. This place adds nothing to a guide for good beers in Brussels. Nice décor in Brussels’ oldest hotel. That’s about the only thing interesting there. I can just imagine sitting outside and drinking a beer there, but again you can do the same on the whole street. Touristy and overpriced.

A must stop just to have a beer or two and check out the beautiful interior. Classy joint with a few interesting, if not rare, beers.

This is a very beautiful place with not a great selection. But you can enjoy a great beer, with great atmosphere. Ended our night here everyday

Decadent art nouveau style with a few Trappists and other standards available. You’re paying a euro or two extra for the atmosphere. Brilliant terrace out front for people watching, with heaters during the cold months. A Brussels classic, but don’t come for the prices or selection. Desserts are excellent, though.

A place to go for the atmosphere rather than beer selection, though you can get the standards here, too.

Ah Cafe Metropole - went there the night I got engaged - its been awhile - the most elegant and classy bar I have ever gone to - check the website out for a virtual tour - nice selection of Belgians and world class wine list. Had my 1st share of Chimay Blue (which was I think Grand Reserve on the menu).

A plave for an Orval. The coys hotel itself is one of the most famous in Brussels.
