72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 sic1314 (244) Leiden, Netherlands | June 17, 2013 Decent selection, the fridges by the door are a novel touch. Decent, well kept beer and good service. | 50 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 9/20 Brigadier (153) Bloomington, Indiana | May 30, 2013 Maybe it was the time of day but the service and food quality were very poor. Fortunately the list of taps was amazing including a number of local breweries. Three fridges up front held a variety of international options including some nice lambics.
If the service had been a bit better I might think this was a place worth revisiting. As it is if I do make my way back to Cambridge there are other pubs just around the corner that seem much more friendly places. Give it a shot as your mileage may vary but prepare to be disappointed. | 40 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 1/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 8/20 jmgreenuk (90) The Hague, Netherlands | November 4, 2012| Updated November 5, 2012 Arrived at 10:26 on Sunday 4th November after traveling from Holland to sample some Cambridge beers. However, the somewhat rude bar staff took great pride in refusing to serve me, claiming the time was 10:31. The clock above the bar was wrong. They suggested I should sue O2, my service provider for telling me the wrong time. Well, I think that O2 have a better idea of the official time than a Cambridge pub clock! They might have a decent cask and bottled selection, but the staff were only interested in closing the bar and going home, There are three more bars in the area that are more deserving of your business. Avoid this place. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 lada66 (132) Savonlinna, Finland | September 26, 2012| Updated November 5, 2012 One of the best places to have real ales in Cambridge. A good selection (30.6.2010). | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 jackl (215) London, England | May 20, 2012| Updated September 16, 2012 The Cambridge Blue’s a great pub located off Mill Road on the outskirts of Cambridge. The pub’s deceptively large, with a big beer garden behind the pub. The decor is tired, with plenty of beer and tobacco paraphernalia adorning the walls. The cask selection is strong, with something like 8 beers on cask plus more options available on gravity. The bottle list is large (150?), dominated by offerings from Belgium. At first glance the list is not all that interesting, but on closer selection it reveals some real gems. Rare beers from Hanssens, T’ij, and Struise (Pannepot Grand Reserva 09 ftw!) were all available at intriguing prices. The food is nothing special, the portions are large. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 19/20 Tim Webb (173) Cambridge, England | May 2, 2012| Updated September 16, 2012 This used to be my local for a time, with a donkey box snug, forgivably vile tolilets, tiny open fire, multiple hanpulls and a series of characterful landlords. Changing it was a major gamble but the block of fridges at the entrance that has replaced even the beloved snug is a triumph of daring over solidity. Excellent beer list, now expanded to all styles. Must be 150+ beers. Hope it works. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 FatPhil (254) Tallinn, Estonia | January 25, 2012| Updated September 16, 2012 Almost certainly the number one beer venue in Cambridge. You’re basically guaranteed 3 new beers every day. 6 of the 12 pump clips are for hand-pull, the others show what’s on from gravicask round the back - my favourite dispense. Unfortunately, several that I’ve had there in the last few trips have been a little old. Food is excellent - I got the rarest steak I’ve had since I was in France there - and was pretty reasonably priced. Plenty of space. Prices in the UK have gone up massively since I was last there, so this last trip felt a bit expensive, but I’m sure the CB’s no more expensive than any other pub in town. No matter how short the trip, you must visit this pub! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Benjii (63) Edinburgh, Scotland | December 2, 2011| Updated September 16, 2012 Great locals pub a bit off the beaten track in Cambridge. A good, constantly rotating, selection of cask ales. During the beer festival, a tent is set up outside to host a lot more beer. Seating runs out fairly quickly outside on a sunny day. The food is hearty and tasty. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 mon8 (1) Papworth Everard, Ca, England | July 22, 2011| Updated September 16, 2012 Splendid selection of ales, enthusiastic landlord and staff. Wonderful atmos’. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Lillywhite (3) , England | July 5, 2011| Updated September 16, 2012 Visit this pub every couple of weeks when visiting my daughter. It really is Beer Heaven with it’s extensive range of real ales. Now over 2000 different real ales since the landlords took over in October 2007. Food could be improved. |
