Norway’s best selection of beers, very traditional inventory, no music. They have constantly 30-35 beers on cask, with some as standard and others that they change a lot. Great place to have a good conversation over a new beer you’ve never tried before.

A lot and a lot of bottled beer. A lot on tap too. Pricey, even for a Norwegian pub (but then again, Stavanger is in general expensive). By far the best selection of beers in the region.
The knowledge (and service) among the staff is very variable and unpredictable - some of them engage in trying to help you find what you are looking for, even if you don’t know what you are looking for yourself; others seem to have little knowledge about their beers (and/or just couldn’t care less about their visitors). On a good day, you’ll be met by an enthusiastic and knowledgeable bartender who’ll do his/her best to provide you with the beer that you didn’t even know you wanted. The good days do, however, not come very often.
Luckily, they have an extensive beer chart (that you can bring to your table) with descriptions of every beer they sell.
Enjoying fine beers at Cardinal would be the equivalent of having dinner in a fine restaurant, only there’s only a buffet and no waiters. The food is still great, though.

"The Cardinal" is not a well kept secret any more. This is a corner pub over two floors. The interior could have been nicer, but the crowds of people get bigger and bigger from each time I visit. It´s not longer a man bastion, but a pub which are frequented by groups of women as well. Many of them actually do buy rare beers from the extensive beer menu. The pub is english inspired, but the beer menu is not. You´ll find beers from all over the world. Their draught beers changes often. Last time I was there they had draught beer from Mikkeler, Ægir, Left Hand and the citys own exciting brewery, Lervig Bryggeri. The staff is friendly and well skilled and will gladly pour you a sip if you wonder which beer to choose. They do not serve food, but if you inform the bartender you can order a delivery of pizza. I will gladly return.

My piece of heaven on earth. in this bar you can relax with a great beer and let time fly. As Cardinal’s motto says "A good story in every bottle".

Centrally located bar, decorated in traditional British fashion. Even though the place is fairly large, over two floors, it is getting ever more popular and at times gets almost ridiculously crowded. With more than 20 taps, of which some are exclusive, and over 500 different bottles at any given time, Cardinal is definitely in the big league when it comes to selection. And the quality follows quantity, giving quite a few goodies to choose from. Also the informative home page deserves due credit. In general staff is very knowledgeable, and will take their time giving good suggestions and service even at the busiest of times. As for value this is not the cheapest place, and even for Norway the prices tend to be on the steep side.

Visited on a Monday and then again on a Tuesday. Excellent selection of beers an an amazing catalogue/menu. Definitely the best pub I’ve been to in Norway. Knowledgeable staff and an excellent selection of beer both on tap and in bottles.

Visited on a Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening in June 2011.
Very central location with a friendly and in most cases, knowledgeable staff.
The selection was very good, 21 beers on tap and several hundreds bottles. Very nice booklet with details of the different beers, the best one I’ve seen.
In most cases it is possible to order the different draft beers in half pints, thumbs up!
Prices are high, but that was no surprise because I have been to Norway many times before. An example: Nøgne Ø Blonde (Kos på Groos) did cost 128 NOK (thats about 23 USD)
I would love to visit again!

Questo locale è ingiustamente sottovautato, meriterebbe di stare nella top ten dei locali europei per la selezione e il lavoro eccellente che fanno con la birra.

Probably the best pub in Norway! I went there 5 nights in a row on a recent business trip, which pretty much sums it up! It has a great selection both in bottle and on draft of top quality world-wide brews (including few dodgy ones!). Best part is the extensive Nøgne Ø selection, which I spent most of time getting through. Prices are not cheap, but no much more expensive that a dodgy pint of yellow fizzy elsewhere in Stav! A top quality beer venue.
