Most recent visit on Saturday 22/12/12 around lunchtime. Split level pub in an old building just off the main high street in the centre of Windsor. Wooden floors, mixture of high and low tables, soft and hard chairs. Fairly dark and atmospheric.
Usually fairly busy whenever Iíve visited and this final shopping Saturday pre Xmas was no exception.
Service was prompt and efficient and I was given a sample no qualms.
Range is typical Nicholsons so fairly solid list of SIBA type breweries represented. On my visit beers from Andwells, the house Nicholsons, Thwaites were present.
Windsor is certainly not a hot bed in terms of a range of pubs to pick up new ticks but this is certainly one of the best ones there.

Nice pub on the main st, close to the castle. Few tables outside, more on the inside. The place looks beautiful, all shiny. Service was nice and the food (fish & chips) was very good. 8 cask ales, some local to Windsor, plus some other regular lagers you should ignore. Very much worth the visit if you are around.

Superb little pub in the heart of Windsor packed full of atmosphere. Good selection of eight hand pulls but the bottle selection was poor. Excellent food and even better service. It's the only pub selling real ales in the immediate are too, plus they have free wifi.

Pleasant traditional pub located a few steps away from the High Street and castle. Pub has a long and interesting history. It is now owned by Nicholsonís group, so the interior is modernised similar to their other pubs. They have an above average selection of cask ales. Eight casks available during my visit from both larger breweries and some more interesting micros. Quick and friendly service. If you are in Windsor anyway, this is a worthy stop.

A nice traditional late Victorian / early Edwardian style Nicholsonís pub (with a much longer history) in the centre of Windsor.
The Carpenters Arms straddles several levels and can be entered from one of two pleasant cobbled streets Ė one at the back and one at the front Ė just a short walk from Windsor Castle. I expect it can be quite busy at the height of the tourist season but on a cold, sunny Saturday morning in December, when I visited with my mother and some of her friends in search of a coffee and a whisky, it was easy to find a table in the balcony area upstairs, which was nicely decorated for Christmas with fairy lights. The main bar is downstairs and has a traditional, local feel. Somewhere in the middle, on the long way down to the toilets in the cellar, thereís a sort of grotto behind an iron grille - perhaps a cave where the beers were traditionally stored or the entrance to a series of tunnels reputedly leading into the castle.
Itís a cosy and comfortable place with about eight taps and an impressive list of up and coming guest beers. The one on tap when we were there was the keenly sought Venus Black from Project Venus, a collaboration of female brewers who are making quite a name for themselves with their excellent beers.
The service was friendly and efficient.

Very atmospheric place, mosaic floor in parts. Beer range is pretty good, food is tasty and above average pub grub; try the meat pies. Friendly. Worth a stop on your way from the castle.

I quite like it in here. Good classic English pub. Beer quality is a bit hit and miss.

A great old pub ( c1518) nice location in a cobbled street very near Windsor Castle, always a good selection of well kept beers, reasonable prices, great manager and brilliant bar staff. If you are ever in Windsor and appreciate good ale this is the place to go, highly recommended !
