Wow. Unbelievable selection of beers I had never seen. And some were on tap!! Wow. Great keg and ale choices and some delicious looking exotic bottles. I wosh it was in Birmingham and I wish it was cheaper, but you can’t have it all. Probably my favourite pub ever. Blimey. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 Drink4Satan (29) Washington, Washington DC | November 29, 2010 This place is the paradigm of what a craft beer bar should be. With 10 casks and a few more taps, rare bottles from all over and a solid food menu with plenty of less traditional items, this placer simply has it all. The seating is flexible and comfortable and there is no pretension to speak of, just quality. I went during a Mikkeller night and there were plenty of ratebeerians from all over to drink with. They even had Brew Dog AB-04, which was nothing short of epic. There is nothing bad to say about this place. It was just a stellar evening of drinking our faces off. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 Bennettonbeer (11) , England | May 24, 2013 This wonderful gastro-pub, originally known as the ’Pimlico tram’, has only been in business for a couple of years.
Yet in that short time it has deservedly gained an international reputation for the excellence and wide variety of its beer selection and the above average quality of its food.
Situated in a quiet area of Pimlico, sandwiched between the River Thames to the south, fashionable Chelsea to the West and Victoria mainline railway, underground and the busy bus stations to the north it is also ideally situated close to Vauxhall Bridge Road and indeed Pimlico Underground Station.
It occupies the ground floor of an uninspiring modern building and could be easily dismissed from the outside as a generic modern pub, but enter and you are in a Real ale Heaven!
This is a MUST visit and not just once either. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 maneliquor (65) Perth, Australia | June 13, 2013 The best pub I’ve ever been to. Selection blows anything else in London out of the water - not only a fantastic bottled selection (from all over the world), but an amazing cask selection too which is predominantly local stuff but a big variety. Service was great. Most staff knew their stuff. Colin and I ended up with an infected beer. The staff guy opened a new one for us and that was infected as well so he gave us another beer of our choosing. I haven’t seen a better selection in a pub to date. Great value cask stuff but the bottles get a bit pricey as expected. Unbelievable pub | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 herchick (7) Akron, Ohio | June 24, 2012 Geat friendly place that specializes in bottles and taps from around the world. Very relaxing, great food although the menu is small. One of the best craft beer places in London. | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 18/20 Thoor84 (17) , Iceland | July 19, 2012 This is a really great place. Went there two times on my last visit to London. Nice atmosphere, good place to sit and drink a bunch of awesome beer. The food is typical British - had the sunday roast which was ok. It is a bit pricy but this is made up by great service and great selection. The staff really know what they are selling and really helpful. They also let me taste few from the tap before i bought which is something i value a lot. | 96 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 martinrumsam (4) BARNSTAPLE, England | September 18, 2012 Widest selection I have seen in a bar. Several Thornbridge and Fyne on cask
12 decent keg beers including Mikkeler and literally 100s of bottles from renowned worldwide craft brewers including Alesmith Prices on the high side. But you must pay for quality. Initial selection advice from barman was good including tasters Ambiance nothing special but it was a Tuesday afternoon | 96 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 ladnewton (144) London, England | October 8, 2009| Updated November 21, 2011 Paid my maiden visit to this pub last night after hearing recommendations. What an absolute gem! Rising from the ashes of its previous incarnation of the Pimlico tram, the pub has been turned into a real ale epicure’s delight. Five hand pumps dispense a constantly changing range of perfectly kept beers mainly from micro breweries. Dark Star features regularly; other noted breweries include RCH, Nottingham, Thorn Bridge, Otter, Humpty Dumpty, Red Squirrel, Kelham Island, York and Broughton Ales. Last night the quality of handpulled beers was exceptional. Add to this a selection of around fifty bottled beers from Europe - mainly Belgian and German brews. KWAK is served in the traditional "tube" - a £10 deposit is required on the glass.
The pub itself is spacious and airy yet intimacy is afforded by warm tungsten lighting and stripped wood. Soft, agreeable background music is played, with conversation ruling the roost.
Food is served most sessions until 2130 and is not overpriced for the postcode. Most starters are £4-£5 with mains £8-£12. I enjoyed the leek & potato soup and the exquisite seabass with spinach and dauphinoise potatoes which arrived in a generous portion.
Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic and take a pride in the beer, food and ambience of the pub.
"London’s Evening Star", an absolute MUST, and for me this pub will become a regular! Excellent.
UPDATE: January 2010. An additional 3 hand pumps have been installed and will come into use shortly bringing the full number of cask ales to 8. FURTHER UPDATE MARCH 2010 - the 3 extra pumps dispense Thornbridge ales exclusively whilst the original five pump out a constantly changing range of micro brewery ales as before. The Thornbridge ales are excellent. FURTHER UPDATE MAY 2010 - Two more handpumps have arrived, and will be dedicated to Brewdog, following their momentous launch night on 20 May. The best has just got better. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 jackl (216) London, England | December 19, 2011| Updated January 29, 2012 Possibly the greatest pub in london. Great selection, well kept beer. The pub has plenty of seats, and is hardly overcrowded. The service is top-notch, the bartenders are reasonably knowledgeable and happy to please. The food has gotten much better in recent months, the redesigning of the menu is much more friendly to the casual drinker, with additions such as fish and chips and nachos. The fact that’s it’s local to my residence doesn’t hurt! |
