This listing should really be merged with the Black Sheep Burrito and Brews spot. Although theyíre technically separate businesses, these two operate as a single entity, a microbrewery wrapped around a little bistro that exclusively serves the brewers wares. I visited on a Tuesday night. The menu was impressive, and my burrito was AWESOME. I had two different pints from among the 8-10 they had on, and both were quite sturdy. The bartender was a friendly, beer-knowledgeable fellow. Great downtown location for a weary business traveler. A-rating! Brewery #687.

Iíll go easy on the poor, overworked and much harried admins by making this place rating a cut and paste of the CBC rating, since this burrito place is like in internal, inseparable Siamese twin. They had nine Charleston beers on when I visited, and one of my pours kicked a keg, which staff replaced with a brand new beer - a serendipity moment for a ticker, since I got 10 ticks. I had tried CBC beers before in growlers and was unimpressed; they were much tastier in person, which is not only a vote for traveling when possible rather than trading; but it also means that Iíll go back and update or delete those growler rating. The food was tasty and creative - I chose a flock of tacos, which means that I learned something about tacos - they travel in flocks whereas beers prefer to gather in flights; who knew? The food was a mixture of southern and Asian-inspired, Thai if I had to guess, since even the bulgogi taco was more Thai than Korean. Service was extremely and genuinely friendly, and it was easy to make friends with the locals sitting at the bar. I (hopefully) talked 63 year old Don into joining Ratebeer today, Iím anxiously awaiting his first beermail. Very relaxed atmosphere, more restaurant-like than bar-like, but both personalities were comfortable with one another. A worthwhile stop in Charleston, especially given the dearth of other beery options.

Glad to have finally found my notes on this place. As I was driving westward last Summer to where I currently live, my family and I shacked up in Charleston, WV. Well who am I to pass up on beer in WV, goes. The ambiance, wow, letís just say this was well lit at a nice soft glow, nothing overbearing, but not dark. This place is absolutely freaking clean, and Iíve been all around the U.S. and found this brewpub to be one of the absolute cleanest establishments Iíve ever been to. The service, well, that takes a slight hit. It was a Tuesday evening and barely anyone there and took a good three hours to complete the meal for three people, uh...thatís a bit too long especially for the fact that I had a three-year old with me. The selection, well, it looked like they had their entire lineup being served that night and since Iím not a native WV, it took me a while to decide what I wanted. The food was absolutely way better than the beer, though the beer was good. The value, uh...did I just transport myself back to expensive New England or is it that expensive to live in Southern WV. Geez Louise for three people $90 is way too much! Overall, Iím glad I tried this place, but its just way too expensive and the service wasnít that great. Better brewpubs in the U.S.

We really liked this place and were thrilled that it has opened up so close to home. On our first visit, not long after it opened we stopped in for dinner. All three of the beers we tried were excellent. My favorite was the Raj IPA; a West Coast IPA that unlike so many other ďWest CoastĒ IPAs brewed in the east actually lived up to that claim. It was an amber colored beer with an outstanding citrus aroma and a fantastic citrusy hop flavor with notes of grapefruit and mango, and just enough of a malt background to make it smooth and well balanced without hampering the hops from being the star of the show. The Hurrican IPA was a slightly stronger IPA brewed with Columbus hops and an unnamed experimental hop, with a bit more malt in the background. It was also excellent; amber color; piney, citrusy hop aroma and flavor. I also tried the Tabfelbier, a Trappist style table beer. This was a great low alcohol Belgian style beer with a subtle spicy, fruity Belgian yeast flavor. The flavors of a Belgian ale yet in a 4.8% abv session beer that you can enjoy without having to worry about how you are going to get home afterwards. The food was also quite good. I had an excellent platter of bangers and mash. The menu is fairly small, but all good quality American and English pub fare including burgers, wings, bangers and mash, Sheppardís pie, fish and chips, and a variety of Moroccan influenced dishes. They did not have a kidís menu, but my daughter enjoyed the plowmanís cheese platter, which consisted of several varieties of cheeses, salamis, and pork, as well as a pretzel, and roasted tomatoes. The restaurant has since closed and reopened as Black Sheep Burrito and Brews, serving a variety of non-traditional burritos and tacos. The food is very good and the beer is still excellent.

A new brewpub in downtown Charleston, WV. A nice, open space with a large bar. The bartender was very informative and interesting in promoting the beer. There were around 8 beers on tap, all pretty solid. The IPA is excellent and the brown ale and porter were good too. Most of their beers are on the lighter size, abv wise. They do serve food, though I didnít order any. Overall, an exciting new brewpub in West Virginia, luckily the quality is present.

This is a large modern space with a nice bar area and a large dinning room. They had eight of their own beers on tap, and the ones I had were all okay but nothing special. They also have a full bar and some wine. The food is more upscale, and the prices reflect that. It is worth a stop if in the area, but not really a great beer destination.

Stopped in on a late saturday afternoon. Parking is on the street, but I didnít have any trouble finding a spot close by. The place wasnít too busy for the time of day it was. Service was pretty quick and attentive. My group sampled our way through their 8 beers on tap and all had a pint of the favorite. Canít speak to the quality or pricing of the food, but the beer prices were great. Took the brewery tour as well. Iíve only been on one other brewery tour, but this one was way more informative the the one Three Floyds puts on. Really enjoyed it. I look forward to visiting this place as it evolves.

I found street parking nearby but it looks like there are plenty of garages around. Located very close to Pies and Pints, which is cool. Semi-industrial vibe with some wood tones but also a concrete floor. Lots of windows brighten the place and the brewery is clearly visible behind the bar. Customer service was about average. They had 4 house beers on tap, all of which were solid, as well as a couple of guest taps (2 from Bridge Brew, and they tapped something from Great Lakes while I was there). I did not eat, but the menu looked reasonably priced and was made up of some nice looking upscale pub food. Customer service was somewhat lacking at the bar. As others have said, they are still facing some of the challenges of a new opening, but I can see them doing some great things in the future.

Improvements have been made, but there is still room from improvement. The decor in nice open modern. There is a nice big L-shaped wooden bar in back. You can see the brewing equipment through windows behind the bar. You can get beer five ways: sampler, half pint, pint, growlette, and growler. I had the sampler ($6) and a half pint. I really liked the sampler and half pint options. The beer is reasonably priced. I had the fish, chips, and slaw; and my wife had the chicken with a green herbal sauce and a side of mushrooms. The fish and chips are just okay, but the Peruvian chicken was very good and so was the slaw. The second time I went I had the curried lamb, and the couscous was great, but there needs to be at least twice as much lamb. The berry cobbler is great. If you are in the area you should stop by. Sometimes they are closed for lunch and Sundays. Call ahead before driving down to confirm they have growlettes, growlers, and lids for either.

The entrance is on Summer St. and there is a parking garage about a half block down so that is a better reference. Place has been open less than a week and still under construction. Fairly large place, restaurant in front and bar in back. Only 5 taps at this time but a good variety with an IPA, pale ale, bitter, stout, and pilsner available. Good selection of whiskey (U.S. and Scottish) and some other spirits. Did not look at menu but the lunch crowd all looked satisfied. Looks to be in a good location in downtown Charleston. As an odd sidenote the restroom near the bar only had urinals in the mens room and I did not see another one. Service was attentive and from the conversations I had and over heard they all had tried the beers and had their favorite, which does not always happen. A nice place with a good layout.
