This is in the building that Summitís used to occupy. Almost the same beer lineup, but now itís a music/game club. Some nights Trivia, Texas hold íem, and some very good music. Beerwise what kp says goes. Even my smoker friends said the smoke was a bit much. Some very good music on music nights, a bit loud during their games.

Showing up to this place really made me sad. The building is literally falling apart. The bartender told me they have Bud Light, Yuengling and Fat Tire on tap. The cooler had maybe 20 bottled beers. I canít believe this is the place that in 2003 I had my first gueuze and this was the place we had beer tastings in 2004. This was my first beer geek bar, now itís nothing of the sort. Itís like going to Disney Land and seeing the Magic Kingdom in ashes!

Stole a bar stool from this place, and the assholes charged me. Donít ask how I got out of the bar without anyone saying, anything, but there was an extra charge on the old Visa, so I think I deserved that. Anyways, not a horrible place. Donít really know much about the food, but decent drink selection. They were all out of everything I wanted to try. I think this place used to be apart of American Pie, but if not it is right next door. Other than the stuff they were out of fairly good drink selection. They were busy when I visited due to trivia night. Service was mediocre. Biggest downside: the service. It took awhile to even get service and when we did it was fairly decent. Overall, a decent place to quench your thirst.

I second cchubbís review below. He said it all, except that the place was pretty loud with dinosaur rock, and has about 3000 TVís silently playing every channel in the galaxy. My worn-out senses just canít take more than an hour amongst flashing TVís, loud music, and cigarette smoke anymore. But if you can, this is a great place.

Except for the heavy smoking presence, this is a great all around bar. Good beer, good service and a good price. The kitchen puts out tasty, not-your-standard-bar-fare food and you can eat well here for $15. Of course, the wall of taps beckons like a flame to a moth. I just wished I had a designated driver on this trip. The waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and quick. I had an Adventenus, a Rogue Hazlenut Brown and a Hofbrauhaus Munichen. All were served promptly and not overly chilled, though not in the proper glassware. Hard to find this place as there are no street signs and the bar name is just painted on some wood by the door, but there are some beer murals to guide you in.

An absolutely wonderful beer lineup in an absolutely dismal place to drink. * 100+ taps of really great beer chosen by people who know what they are doing. One of the very best lineups in the city. * The downside is that this is one of the very few places in the city where you can smoke in a bar. So all of the smokers come here. And smoke all of the time. The first time I went I stayed 10 minutes. Thankfully the service was slow enough I didnít have time to order before running out the door gaging for fresh air. I hear itís better if you go early in the day before a crowd shows up. Iíll try this next time. * I could be a regular here if it were non-smoking. Instead I have been twice in the year and a half that itís been open. * Update: I went on a Sunday afternoon about 2pm. It was much better as there were only about 5 people in the bar with just a couple of those smoking. Beer, of course, was top notch. By the time I left an hour later, a few more smokers had arrived. Going early during a slow time is the key to this place.

Rising from the ashes that was Summits Wayside Tavern. Charlie Mopps is the best beer bar in Atlanta.

It doesnít look like much from the outside, but inside are a whole lot of great taps, plus friendly and helpful bartenders. Nothing fancy for decor the beers get all the attention here. Had a nice cheeseburger as well. Iíd definitely stop here again.

Charlie Mopps has truly honored the former tenant of this building, the Summits Wayside Tavern of Sandy Springs. As with Summits, they have an amazing beer selection: I counted 80 on tap and 170 in bottles, mostly craft brews and imports. I hope they decide to have a "beer club" like the Summits Club, where you drink 100 beers and get a personalized mug. Music is not the best (but Iím picky about music!), but they donít play it too loud, and when they have a game on that isnít too loud either. Food is very tasty and much better than your typical pub chow. Service is just as good as at the old Summits - the serving people are friendly, helpful, and fast as they can be for the circumstances. Though I will always miss the Sandy Springs Summits, I am confident Charlie Mopps will establish themselves as another great beer bar of the Atlanta area.
