Visited on Friday 20/11/15 around 530 pm.
Not really walking distance from the centre of brussels, unlike Fontainas, but a simple enough three stop tram ride to Horta from Midi station then a sub five minute stroll.
St Gilles is a smallish bar in a predominantly residential district and the clientele largely mirrored this with far less tourists than my visits to Fontainas.
It was relatively quiet when we arrived but soon filled up and by 630 we were asked to join another couple at a table in order to free up more space.
Selection is solid but from a tickers point of a view a step down from Fontainas with about half the number of taps and not as many interesting guests on offer. Bottle list seemed larger but again tried and trusted numbers and Cantillon offerings at sky high prices.
Service was table only and was pretty decent. The guy was keen to recommend beers, not what we wanted, but also helpful in that he did a cellar run for us to check the specifics of a beer. Overall given the choice I would hit up Fontainas for the variety but this place had a more chill cafe vibe about it compared to the more clinical ’pack em in tight’ booths of its sister !l

Visited on friday afternoon, really crowded but somewhat cosy. As expected a good choice of beers but just missing some more tap beers I guess... Lot of bottled beers to choose from although prices are from lightly more expensive to expensive.
Tap beers in different sizes and prices are regular for any craft beer bar in Brussels. The service is an absolute 10: polite, serving at the table, know what they are selling and take the time to explain their beers. Such a service is rare nowadays but absolutely a strong point from this place! When in the vicinity, make a stop! Recommended!

More out of the way than its younger, larger brother. Not that much seating space, especially once the cold weathers roll around. Very crowded on Zwanze Day though that’s not surprising. Plenty of interesting stuff on tap. Slightly lower prices than in the center. Friendlier, more attentive service, but that’s not a surprise what with not as many people to serve. Seems a lot of locals come here as well.

Out of the city’s center the best bar/pub I visited in Brussels during my two nights stay there! Small cozy place, great ambiance, nice music playing, very good service and very good beer selection. We had some dry sausage and their own made cheese, both were very good. Prices were good too. I visited it on Friday night before Zwanze 2015 to buy a ticket and then I came back on Saturday night for Zwanze day. It became crowded for 15 minutes and then back to normal.

Nice little bar with more "authentic" look than the one in Brussels Center. Selection is nice and I liked the way it was displayed. But we didn’t really get the time to go over it because the bartender came abruptly to ask us what we’d like. Although I made pretty clear I was going to take my time to pick he came back 3x asking and trying to convince us that He could find us the beer we were looking for and sounding kind of pretentious. (he finally gave my gf a beer without us really giving him the go-ahead. I went for the 6’th choice I had make because of storage shortage in a lot of foreign beer still on display (the display were detachable so it made little sense to have it hang up there anyway). Beer were good, atmosphere also, food looked nice and not to pricy.

Much cosier and laid back than its Fontinas sister, the draught range is about half the amount and bottle list shorter but still has plenty to be going at. Soem comfy tables and again a few outsude tables. Single member of staff on and doing brisk service. Nice stroll in to town with plenty of other places en route.

A nice outside terrace and a cozy bar inside. Quite small but this gives the staff more time to interact with customers. For me this makes it much more welcoming to someone on their own than the newer main branch. No menu beyond the chalk boards up on the wall which list tons of goodies on draft and in bottles that scratch the surface of what the cellars hold. They were kind enough to show me the cellar where they told me they’ll be a massive renovation where the restrooms on the first floor will be ripped out and a new entrance to the cellar installed which will become a bar/dinning area where they plan to have brunch. During this time it’ll be closed for 3 weeks. So if you’re coming in Sept/Oct 2015 call ahead.
