CK is the hot place in town. Just always stupid crowded even early Monday evenings. What!? Come here on Friday or Saturday night and you can forget about it. It is insanely packed. OMG. But if you know a few people and are polite, you can get your drinks very quickly no matter the crowd. Selection is so big itís a little terrifying. But if you really dig deep into the bottle list- its extensive but most of the beers are expensive and mediocre. This is a place that could really throw itís weight around to get better beers like Port/LA, FFF, Surly, New Glarus, RR, Struise, De Molen. Sadly, almost all the exclusive beers are exclusive for a reason: they suck. There is a huge emphasis on Italian craft beers, which are mad expensive and usually suck. Food is insanely good, but you pay for it.
**UPDATE** Iíve warmed to this place over the past year for a number of reasons. One, though they donít have happy hour like Paradiso, you can always get tasters of whatís on tap for a pretty good deal. Usually around $3. Two, they have kept the same staff for a long time. Iíve made friends with a lot of them and itís nice to know someone behind the bar when it gets mad crowded, which is almost always the case. Three, they do clean their tap lines meticulously and staff labors all day doing this detailed necessity. Four, they have been throwing their new found fame around to get lots of exclusive beers. Now Struise and De Molen is quite common and even Cantillon is doing an event here. Iím very proud to have CK as a sort of local bar and think the staff is top notch. Without a doubt, the premier beer bar in DC if lacking the homey, relaxed atmosphere of Paradiso.

Had to try this place out when I was in DC FT a night. Nice tap list with a few casks and a HUGE bottle list with vintage bottles and bottles from all over the world. Very overwhelming list. The food was good and the service was very friendly and knowledgable. A must stop beer bar.

I have visited ChurchKey a few times now during my DC stay. Thereís always interesting beers on tap to try with a great selection across all styles. They also seem to do regular brewery tap takeovers and launches of new beers. The food is delicious too with their own spin on some classic snacks. Staff have been welcoming and friendly each time Iíve been in. I advise trying to arrive here at opening time during weekdays as it fills up very quickly come 5pm. No doubt a great beer bar!

2015-03-04. We walked upstairs to ChurchKey for a drink after a great dinner at Birch and Barley. As was the case downstairs the tap list is extensive with offerings in a range of styles and over a dozen things that were new to us, including several I hadnít even heard of before. At 10:00 or so on a Thursday night ChurchKey was twice as loud and twice as busy as downstairs. The long skinny layout has tables near the front, seats at the bar and booths along the one side. (I barely squeezed my fat ass into the surprisingly small booth! Time for a diet?) Service was just okay (the friendly table server missed us coming in but brought us waters unasked which was nice, the bartenders seemed kind of uninterested and tired with the busy crowd) but not quite up to the high standard downstairs, but then I wouldnít necessarily expect them to be since they are different kinds of places. Prices are not cheap, which seems to be the norm in DC, but the option to do half pours is nice. Seems like a good mix of people in the crowd. Ultimately you are here for the beer, not the space. I suspect I will like it better if I was more in the mood for a "bar" but the quieter atmosphere of B&B was more my speed tonight. I will definitely return if Iím back in DC but would probably aim to arrive earlier in the evening. (Right after I tell the kids to get off my lawn. :) ) We were just here for one drink after a long night downstairs so itís not an entirely fair assessment. The problem with heading to a great beer bar after having just spent an awesome evening at itís sister restaurant downstairs with superlatively good service is that it canít really hope to compare after that.

I would say this is a must visit, but try to come when it isnít so crowded.
I would argue they try too hard with the gourmet food. Youíre going to ChurchKey for the beer selection. The food isnít bad, but itís a little too gourmet when Iím more interested in that hard-to-find Double IPA or stout, etc.

Really great selection; although, some of the bottles can be a bit pricey. The rotating taps are great, especially the casks. Food is good too and probably the best value. Service struggles a little on busy nights. Get there early if you want to sit down.

When I visited: Late September 2014.
What I had: Pint of Victory Prima Pils and a bottle of Oude Gueuze Tilquin ŗ líAncienne, two glasses of sauvignon blacn for my fiancť, some waters.
What I liked: Large, dimly-lit bar has ample seating, expansive draft list, good crowd with a bustling, conversational atmosphere, amicable bartender made a great recommendation in the Tilquin and happily agreed to take a picture of us when asked, we enjoyed all of our drinks.
What I disliked: While the tap lineup is huge and well-selected, there was nothing that really grabbed my attention on our visit (hence the Prima), like downstairs the prices are high. On the whole, though, this is a fantastic beer bar that we would frequent often if we lived in the area.
Would I go back? For sure.

A huge selection of beers that I have to admit. But... it was really cold inside. Like sitting in a freezer. And the service was super slow. Yes we were not the only customers but still it was like slow motion. I have to say it was a disappointment. From a place with 99% rating in RB I was really expecting more. 55 taps is quite impressive though.

One of the best bottle selections youíll come across with an extensive tap list to boot. Big open industrial feel with friendly service. Prices are a bit of a mixed bag as a lot of the bottles are overpriced but the selection makes it worth it. Lives up to the hype in my opinion.
