88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 changeup45 (100) Mount Dora, Florida | July 8, 2009| Updated August 24, 2011 This review needs an update. Since this review they have done so much here it’s hard to believe they are still a relatively new brewery. The tasting room is cool with a few tables and a fairly large bar area. They have added a lot of taps in the past year or so with more special releases and guest taps. I swear, they are constantly releasing something new and exciting. I can’t keep up! Original Review: Cigar City has Florida beer enthusiasts super-excited and rightfully so. Visited on a Monday afternoon, it’s a start up brewery in a warehouse so no food, crazy bells and whistles or anything like that. Limited hours right now. Merchandise for sale as well as growlers to go. Two core beers right now along with a boat load of seasonals/limited release type stuff. Very affordable growlers, $3 for the 32oz bottle (that they will refill) and $6-$7 for the fills. Gallon growlers available too. Joey and Wayne are doing a really good thing here. Sebastien was very helpful and friendly the day I visited. I look forward to my next visit. I’ll re-rate when I do... I suspect it’s only going to get better! | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 gunhaver (13) Tampa, Florida | July 8, 2009 It’s a warehouse that’s really hot and sticky, so the ambiance isn’t so great I guess. What a stupid thing to review. Lots of shirts and cool growlers and glasses and a nice tasting room with keg tables and whatnot. Big ass tanks fermentin’ away. Joey and Wayne are eager to help, despite the heavy sighs and rolling eyes when you ask them to sample some beer straight out of the bourbon barrels tucked away in the back. You can get growlers of their 2 staples and there’s most likely going to be some special beer available as well. You just have to go every single day to find out. There is no food, but there’s a McDonald’s pretty close by. And a Wendy’s. Value is pretty kickin’ rad, growlers are like 3 bucks per, and you can always bring them back. They’ll fill anything under 32oz and anything over 128oz. I had them fill a few corny kegs of Hunahpus no problem! So I suggest you go there and demand that they give you growlers of Hunahpus. But be sure that whenever you do go, don’t say gunhaver sent you, otherwise you’ll be kicked out. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 daknole (300) Scottsdale, Arizona | July 8, 2009 Hell yeah, homer review here I come! Damn this is a fine place to enjoy a beer and talk to Joey and Wayne about the world of craft beer. These guys care about their beer, industry and customers. And then the beer. Holy crap what a brewery. If you are within 100 miles, you owe it to yourself to stop in and have a sample or buy one of their ridiculously affordable growlers. Cheers CCB! | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 jonboy32818 (8) orlando, Florida | July 4, 2009 This is a working brewery people. Went yesterday, had a few tasters and bought a couple of growlers. Joe was working his ass off and still had a few minutes to show me and some other patrons around and make small talk. Will try to make it everytime I am out in Tampa. Be aware no weekend unless there is a special event.
Cheers
JON | 36 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 4/20 allfreej (76) Louisville, Kentucky | June 30, 2009 Growlers filled (no 64-oz, just 32 oz and 1 gallon). This is not a tasting room. The staff are great, but they explained they only host a few events at that location and are not licensed to dispense beer. If you are looking for a growler of beer, a shirt, or glassware, by all means go. Their beer is wonderful. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 gkost (32) Tampa, Florida | June 7, 2009| Updated December 18, 2010 I figured I’d update my rating since the Tasting Room is now open. Nice old-ish vibe. Nothing fancy going on here. Usually a few locals and out of towners with sample flights and a few pints. They have a dart board with REAL darts, not those plastic things. They always have about 10 or so CCB offerings and a few guest taps. Never really crowded. A good place to sit down and have a pint or 2. Aside from beer, they sell artisan sodas (for lack of a better word). They are cool with people bringing in food, or you can order take out to the tasting room itself. Very chill, down to earth vibe. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 HOPSHUNTER (33) Tampa, Florida | June 7, 2009| Updated April 9, 2010 Great so far. When the taproom is fully operational this place will be killer. Joey and Wayne are super friendly and informative. The beer is excellent. Awesome addition to Tampa Bay.
re-rate after opening of taproom | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Nail (10) Georgia | May 15, 2009| Updated April 9, 2010 It is hard to give this place a high rating, like many breweries selection is a misleading category. Granted some of the bigger breweries have quite a selection, but they can’t compare to a beer bar with forty taps and a cooler full of bottles from around the world. When rating breweries the options should be weighted for cleanliness and quality. Quality should be based on ingredients and final product, which in this case is surprisingly good. This is a new brewery and judging by the Jai Alai IPA we can look forward to some great offerings from Cigar City Brewing. | 94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 kiefdog (118) Tampa, Florida | May 8, 2009| Updated April 9, 2010 Visited a few times prior to the tasting room opening. I agree with others that it has been very cool seeing this brewery grow and change literally every time that I have visited. Once the tasting room is finished, this will be one cool place to stop by to have a few and take a few home. Looking forward to the tasting room opening and the ability to purchase growlers to go. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 PorterPounder (244) Tallahassee, Florida | April 1, 2009| Updated March 24, 2012 Update Stopped by here early on a Monday morning in March ’11. Very impressed with what they have done since I visited here 2 years ago. Nice spacious tap room, great selection - about 10 CCBs - a guest tap, even had some Hunahpu left over, bonus - even had some "craft" sodas for my son. Excellent service from Mary - knew her beer and very engaging and friendly. Will be a regular stop any time I am in the Tampa area Original Swung by here in early April before the taproom officially opened but was still treated to a custom personalized tour and some sampling - I did call ahead to make sure it was alright. Interesting to see this operation blooming from the ground up and the beer is mighty tasty. I will keep my eye out for it around the state and help spread the word. Easy to find location just off of I-275 - hope to stop by again when the tap room is finished. |
