City Beer Store is located on Folsom Street in downtown San Francisco, a couple blocks away from Cellarmaker. Street parking is available in the surrounding blocks, but availability is probably a challenge at certain times of day.
Upon entering, a short staircase leads down to a space that is divided between a store and a bar. The store is on the left side, with a row of coolers along the wall and shelves occupying the rest of the available space (which is not a lot). On the right is a curved bar with a few stools and a couple high top tables. Very DYI motif, with a signboard listing the beers on tap. There is a cooler of rarer beers behind the bar as well.
There are around 15 beers on tap at City Beer, including many CA breweries like Heretic, Rare Barrel, Coronado and Alpine. The bottled selection numbers in the hundreds, again with many vintage and rare beers from Bruery, Goose Island, Logsdon, Almanac, Cascade and many others.
Service on an early weekday afternoon both at the bar and in the store was good. The staff are all well-versed in the beer selection and was very helpful in selecting beers on draught and to take home.
I did not have any food during my visit.
Overall this is a worthwhile bar/store. I always like the option of buying a pint and carrying it around while I shop, and/or buying a bottle to drink in a cool bar. Definitely a must stop in San Fran.

Stopped in after a Giant’s game. Love this place, it has a great atmosphere, staff is very helpful, and a great bottle selection. Lots of Giant’s fans also...;)

This have to be the best bottle shop I have visited. Great tap list and lots of singles. The prices are a bit steep but I will most definitely visit again next time in San Francisco

Tried to stop at Monk’s Kettle but they were too packed thanks to a PTY event so we decided to go here a little earlier than I was planning, oh well. Atmosphere was solid all around. Bottle shop area to the left is informal with bottles on shelves and coolers all over the place. Bar area off to the right had plenty of people enjoying beers and talking amongst themselves, we were lucky to get a table as they quickly filled up once we got situated. Service was great. Girl behind the bar got my beers quickly and was nice to talk to. Quality was top notch all around. Selection on drafts was a little light but they were all top notch so it more than made up for it. The bottles on offer were pretty insane as well. Food was nearly non existent but the charcuterie we got was really good. Prices were comparable across the board to the other places I have visited. Overall an awesome bottle shop / beer bar combo.

Small place. Half bar, half store. Both halves are pretty good. The bar has a good selection of beers on tap, and a great "vintages cooler" with some really hard-to-find stuff in it. The store has a large and excellent selection. Great place to get a glass of beer and browse the store.

Awesome bottle shop and bar - very high quality list of taps, which included a couple of Sante Adairius beers on tap. Bottle selection isn’t the largest I’ve seen, but it boasts top quality brews. Prices are pretty high for the tap beers, but pretty standard for the bottles. An obvious choice for any beer nerd in San Fran.

Unassuming basement. Draft list is great and brought me back several times over my last trip. Bottle selection was surprisingly unimpressive. A few cool, expensive bottles to drink in the cooler behind the counter.

Just a basement with some interesting beers on tap and very large and interesting bottle selection. Also good amount of vintage bottles for on-site drinking.
