We stopped here for a bit of Heady when we were passing through. It was practically a supermarket, so the ambiance is as such. There was a Whole Foods vibe. The service was very helpful in letting us know about what time Heady would be in and where to line up and everything. The selection of everyday stuff was very lacking. There were aces locals in the cooler, but I was not impressed at all. No food, though some of it smelled good. All be told. $84 for a case of Heady is absolutely worth it. This place did what it needed to for me.

Been here a couple of times, figured it’s best time to say something about this place. Though a grocery store, the beer section is decent. It is located off to the far left corner if entering from the parking lot. Of course, the grocery store feel ambiance is still pretty clean. Selection is serviceable with all of the normal offerings from Vermont, a good amount from New England and some of the bigger breweries around the U.S. (Victory, Stone, Founder’s, Dogfish Head). Value seemed reasonable for the downtown area. Overall, well, it’s this or Pearl Street Beverage which is within walking distance, this place is just cleaner.

I buy most of my beer here. It’s centrally located and near the lumberyard (I’m a carpenter) where I do most of my shopping on a day to day basis. Not only is there beer, but there’s also all the other things that I need to eat in my daily life. Like, bulk foods/spices/coffee/tea-which are the best deal in town, (even if you’re not a member), the freshest and best selection of bread, pastries, vegies, cheese and deserts. There’s always a staff member hanging around the beer area who’s very knowledgeable and friendly. The beer selection is varied and though small, has many excellent local selections. Become a member and receive a dividend check (read: discount on beer) each year.

The City Market Onion River Co-Op is well located in central Burlington and is the main shop in town for take-away beer. It is a modest sized supermarket full of premium foodstuffs and beverages. The beer selection is located mostly in fridges and although not massive contains some nice local stuff. They get Heady delivered once a week, so if you are looking for that check the Alchemist website before you plan a visit. I picked up some nice Maine Beer co stuff. A decent place.

Visited on a Tuesday, people were rushing for cases of Heady Topper which had just arrived. The rest of the bottle selection is fairly decent, not that many local or outstanding brews though it seemed. Can’t really compare prices but a 4-pack of Heady cost 14$ there.

Cool little supermarket with a solid beer selection and also cheese, deli items etc. Most of the beers are kept chilled and there was a big supply of Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine cans and I guess they stock Heady when availability suits. Busy with locals queuing up to buy deli sandwiches.

When I visited: Late May 2013. What I bought: Otter Creek Hop Session Ale, Dogfish Head Sixty-One, Wolaver’s India Pale Ale, Maine Beer Company MO and Zoe, others. What I liked: Lots of refrigerated local craft beer, reasonably fresh dates on most stuff, beer guy was happy to help although some of his recommendations fell flat, cool Whole Foods vibe to the place, a decent if unspectacular option for lunch and a bottle shop. What I disliked: Beer selection was okay but not particularly impressive, cashier was unwilling to grab me an empty case when I told her it would help us avoid problems at the border, not many bomber or dinner bottle options here, no growler fills as far as I know. Would I go back? Probably not. Overall Rating: 62

Cool Co-Op spot (grocery). Picked up few snacks on the way. Beer selection was OK not great. As everywhere service was above average. This must be Vermont thing.

Not sure what the hype is about this place; their selection was modest and overall seemed more or less on par with the Vermont State Liquor stores. I did see a few bottles of Alesmith, which is an interesting find this far East, but not so exciting for this Californian.
