2014-07-09. Nice selection of casks and taps but few I woud rave about tonight. bartender is friendly and seems knowledgable. Cozy, friendly puppy at next table. Atmosphere is very comfortable, lots of wood with a very traditional pub feel, but with just a bit of a cafe infusion as well. We only stayed for one drink here as we had had a big day already but would have liked to have stayed longer.

Oh i cant believe ive not rated this. This is now my (work)Local. there a few lunchtimes every week. 9 taps 5 changing and 4 fixed (Stewart Holy grail, Tim Taylor Landlord, Cairngorm Tradewinds, deuchers IPA). Beer always top notch. Very friendly... This is my TOP equal choice of Edinburgh bar (along with the Bow Bar) the 5 Guest Taps Change frequently, through a wide and varied selection
Since my original rate way back in 2008...this place has gone from strength to strength, they have removed Landlord, and Deuchers and put in a permanent highland tap, and Stewarts Pentland, they have replaced Guinness with Black Isle Porter and have an occasional range of interesting Keg beers.
Children over 5 now allowed with food up till 7pm

Me and Loz visited here on Saturday 15th March 2014. This is another bar that we’d been to a few times before with Craig and Stella but on this occasion we were on our own. Cloisters as you might expect is close to a church, I’m not sure of the name of the church or even the area where we were. The bar has lots of wood and appears quite old we both like the spiral staircase. It had a rather stale beer smell today which was one if the only negatives. Whilst there were plenty of taps/handpumps from which to choose, the choice was a little too dominated by Abbeydale beers which are fine but with such a thriving beer scene around now I think by limiting themselves they might be missing a trick. The barman was very good he spotted a beer (already served) on a table and was clearly unhappy with the appearance offering to replace it for another beer which I believe he did in the end. The bar is to the left and in front of you as you enter. I really like Cloisters, however it is clear that competition is really hotting up on the pub/bar front in Edinburgh and I fear that this bar could effectively be left behind by the top choices and become something of a ’best of the rest’ type establishment.

Lovely place with cosy couches. They have a great selection of beer and the staff is very knowledgeable about the beers they’re serving. And they’re not skimping when they pour either. Great place.

Pub located off Lothian Road in central Edinburgh with a traditional looking interior. Good range of cask ales available also some beers on tap, with good service. Can take abit of effort getting through to the bar when busy.

This pub was literally the Cloisters of the church next door I believe. It’s a welcoming pub in Tollcross with an open fire, accomodating staff and a reliably quick turnover of well kept cask ales. The food is excellent and usually incorporates one of the beers on tap. Definitly more cask orientated but youll see some decent kegs and bottle beers in there from time to time. Hanging Bat just up the road is a better ’beer bar’ but as far as proper pubs go, Cloisters has everything I’m looking for. An essential part of Edinburgh’s beer tapestry.

Probably our favourite pub in Edinburgh. No music, no TV, just the sound of lively conversation, as it should be. Oh, and they have a great selection of real ales. Highly recommended.
