Great place, one of the forebears for craft brew in a great craft brew town!

good food matched with a decent selection of beers. They switch up the beer frequently so visiting multiple times will allow a new beer every so often.

Kind of a dark dingy bar with a decent selection of beer. Food is average pub fair for the most part. I’ve had a few draft beers that didn’t taste like they normally should. Overall not a b place to get a beer.

Hadn’t been here in years - basically, having kids sort of knocked this place out of the rotation. Happy to visit again - and it really hasn’t changed any except that there isn’t any smoke anymore thanks to the new laws in Virginia. Small, dark, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Small but interesting tap selection, always a cask going (this time it was Victory Hop Wallop). Food is standard pub grub. The ribs used to be fantastic, but that was over a decade ago when they were still using the original Commercial Cafe rib recipe, so I don’t know what they are like these days. Great neighborhood bar. It doesn’t really score high here, but it is well worth a stop if you are in town.

Small, dark, but cozy. Interesting atmosphere. Very very friendly staff. Somewhat emo crowd, but everyone there is really pleasant. Great beers on tap and bottle!

I had never been to Richmond before. I was in town for a Photoshop seminar and did my research beforehand on Ratebeer. Myself and a few friends went to the Capital Alehouse (downtown) the night before and were not impressed, so we decided to give this place a try. We were all glad we did! It’s a pretty small joint in a funky little neighborhood that feels very collegiate. The beer was good and so was the food. The biggest chicken quesadilla I’ve seen in a while...and that was just an appetizer. They had some local stuff on tap from Blue Ridge and Star Hill and some Terrapin too. We can’t get Terrapin in Maryland....ironically, so I tried the Hopsecutioner. It was delicious! The tap handle said Big Hoppy Monster, but the chalk board said Hopsecutioner. I called the next day to confirm, and they said Hopsecutioner. It tasted like the Big Hoppy Monster to me though. it was big and DELICIOUS! One of the few beers that I’ve had that I actually preferred on tap instead of bottled. Anyways, cool spot that’s worth checking out. P.S.: They had Victory Hop Devil on cask! That’s one of my favorites, and it was delicious.
