Super weird place that seems like a beer bar, family restaurant, and internet hang out (one of the few in the city) in the middle of Chinatown, color me confused. Despite the weird vibe, best beer draft list in the city behind Local. 20 taps, around a 100 bottles of fresh new NZ beers, Euro and American. Staff was friendly and quick, not a huge beer knowledge but enough to get by. This place is worth a visit in Melbourne, especially if you don’t want to go all the way to Local.

The selection has improved tremendously in the past months, and there are always interesting beers to try. Great place for local, kiwi, and american options. The staff is very friendly and interested. The food is delicious, and the space is great to relax.

Located in central Melbourne and seems to be a trendy place to be seen at as much as a place for drinking and dining. There are more craft beers available than in the past. Service can be a bit cold depending on the servers and the prices are a bit stiff. Been there, done that.

Nice little place for a tipple but is a tad on the expensive side. Can produce some epic drinks although these are likely to be cocktails

Didn’t think much of this. Very pretentious and arty cool. Tap list was poor when I was there and their bottle list is pricey. Needless to say I shared a beer with my mate and headed for the exit.

Not a great range of tap beers, but at least they have Erdinger. Bottled selection is fairly large, however, they are often out of stock. A plus was I asked them about a couple of beers that weren’t on the menu and they had them, they just haven’t updated the menu in a while, so its worth asking one of the bartenders if they have anything they would recommend that isn’t included on the menu. The venue is nice, it gets really loud after 6 though. Nice balconies that are a great place to sit on a nice day. Service was ok, I was sitting in the back cocktail section and the guys seemed pretty clued in and knowledgeable about beer. However, the service was slow but this was to be expected as they were also making cocktails and I dont hold it against them. The girls around the other side were not so helpful, and brought me a Hefeweizen when I had ordered the Kristall, and a Schofferhoffer when I had asked for a Schneiderweisse.... Foods ok, nothing too fancy and a bit overpriced for what you get. Waiters are a little obnoxious, slow, and unapologetic for mistakes. In their defense they seem a bit understaffed in this area.

Upscale bar and restaurant in the heart of Melbourne city. The tap list was ridiculously boring on my visit, which was disappointing, though the beer menu is OK. The first 5 beers I tried ordering off the menu they were out of stock! Poor form but what can you do, I didn’t have much of a choice after that. It appears to be mainly international beers and there really wasn’t much of a range of local micros available at all. The plus was the staff were enthusiastic and clued up about beer and themselves were disappointed with the short supply of stock. I guess most patrons that enter the establishment would be happy with the Fat Yak on tap. Pretty exy for the beers, and when I came back another day for food they were fully booked. An extremely popular place that constantly busy and if you’re visiting on a weekend definitely book for a table. November 2009 - Still a boring tap list and extremely limited bottled range available. Food is so so and can’t say I’m a fan of this place. I found the staff to be bordering obnoxious this time round too. Over hyped and over priced? Well of course.

Great ambiance, smooth easy going atmosphere. Good service, John seemed to know what he was on about, had a couple of good suggestions Just got in the Epic Pale ale. Big beer, Big place, Big Night!

Nice balcony in the sun. Good and friendly staff! Very helpfull. Even printed out a top 100 list of Ratebeer from Ozzi. Very nice selection of brews. Had some nice ones. International brews too. A must visit!
