THis place is a godsend for someone like me who lives half the year in beer heaven Wisconsin and the other half in pils-chauvinist Hamburg. Superbly organized and beautifully arrayed displays of styles and tasties that I used to have to go to Armanetti’s in Berli to try and find. Really well conceived shop. Chimay Triple bombers for 4.99, delightful Hopfenstopfer hop creations from Baden, VItus weizenbock from Weihenstephan - - I used to trapse all over Hamburg to get anything interesting and now this. I am totally besotten with joy.

Afternoon visit on 12th Dec 2014. Joined at the hip to the Altes Madchen Brewpub next door. Modern, slick and smart setup. Great selection of ’craft beers’ (as the place name suggests) with a mouthwatering choice: some of the prices left me speechless though. A beer geek heaven and I certainly had a lovely half an hour wandering and staring at the shelves and the beers on offer. A true international selection, just go in with a budget in mind and try to keep to it.

Visited 12/2014. Obviously conceived & steadily growing as the new HH and even northern DE hub for "craft beer culture", a term Ratsherrn luckily failed to patent or who knows how high the horse they might be on. Very new and thoughfully laid out, roomy shop with local HH, contracted and selected DE shelves at higher than average prices for some classics like Schneider Weisse and Schlenkerla. Pricey specials and one-offs including a range of elusive Pax Bräu 1L bottles and collaborations: Service: came early before noon while they were still stocking the shelves and managed to trade off a rare Belgian for a BA Fuller’s with an enthused young staffer who poured a rare past-BB date bottle sample, so no complaints there. Nice range of Mikkeller (including one open tap it seems), Evil Twin, UK and well-catered to US imports at slightly higher than webshop prices. Could be tweaked to great success once the new DE craft craze turns into a mature, sustainable culture carried by more than the well-budgetted curiosity of Hanseatic Schanzenhöfler.

Decent place to look for German craft and some traditional German/Belgian beers. The selection of brews from other countries and their prices are often steep which is a hinderance. If you are looking for imported craft beer this isn’t the best place to look.
I’ve found several beers coming close to their expiration dates, so that is important to check while shopping here. Light often shines through windows in the front and back of the store and lands directly on the bottles along the wall.
If you happen to be in the area of Sternschanze or Planten un Blumen on a nice day in Hamburg stopping by and grabbing a beer from the cooler and enjoying the weather is a good idea. Otherwise I’m not sure if a non resident of Hamburg would need to visit this bottle shop. Compared to bottle shops I’m used to in the US and the ones I’ve visited around Europe this place doesn’t live up to the high rating it has.

Great place to buy craft beer from everywhere. Selection is great, service ok, you can also get some Mikkeller beer on tap there. Prices of German and US beers are relatively accceptable, but there are some overpriced samples, too. Worth of visiting it every time when in Hamburg...

Big beer store opposite the yard from Altes Madchen. Good selection of mainly german beers, but also danish, belgian, american etc. Biggest selection seen on our visit to Hamburg. Easy to overview as they was sorted on the shelfs by style. 2 or 3 walk in coolers with sixpacks of mainly Ratshernn beer. Good service who spoke a good english. Prices inline with what you would expect.

Medium-sized beer store with a good selection of German and international ’craft’ beers. Prices are ok for Hamburg. Good for grabbing a few chilled Ratsherrn six-packs and taking a walk in the nearby Planten un Blomen park, as we weren’t hell-bent on rating any new beers that day.

New shop on the same yard as Altes Mädchen. Very nice and large selection of german beers, also some british, belgian and american.. Not as much foregin beers as the domestic ones, but I would say that it is amongst the largest selections I’ve seen in Germany. A definite visit if you are in Hamburg, especially since you’re already going to Altes Mädchen.

Nicely set in Schanzenhöfe. Offers a pretty good alternative selection of world beers. Service is friendly and professional offering a good knowledge. A bit disturbing was the music in the shop which drags on the ambiance, at least though it was not too loud and the music styles were fitting unlike you get in other shops... Price wise you get a couple of good deals but other than that it is a bit higher than expected. Still fair though. Overall a good place to shop and find new interesting brews. Definitely worth visiting!
