For Iowa this place is not a bad one to visit if youíre near by. The manager was not at all helpful with anything but a young lady who also worked there was more than helpful. In single bottles the mostly had Belgians and a few other European beers but very few craft brews. The had a lot of craft brews in cases. They also had some cheaply priced glassware.

Best store I have been to in Iowa! I love this place. Very neatly organized, friendly staff, clean and very large selection.

Great store with a very large amount of beer. The help is extremely friendly and know their stuff. They do order everything available from distributors and also special order a very large amount of high proof beers from the state. The store is clean and a great place to shop if you are in Iowa.

The manager says he orders everything available from his distributors, but I think that may be a stretch. Unfortunately, due to Iowaís prohibitionist liquor laws, most of the good stuff (>5% ABW) has to come through the State distributor. Everything except the Belgians are pretty well stocked. Except for the cashiers, theyíre somewhat knowledgeable, very friendly and will talk shop. They will chill beer for you if you call ahead, and will special order kegs if their distributor carries it. They have some wine, whiskey, and beer tasting sessions a couple time a year (as an aside, they also have a good selection of wine and whiskey). Although Iím frequently disappointed, this is the best place Iíve seen in Central Iowa.

I am so in love with this store. I often travel East from Nebraska and made a stop in Ames last week. The selection is absolutely amazing. I also got to know one of the managers, I believe his name was Cliff, very well. He was extremely friendly and helpful. The store is extremely well stocked, the shelves and bottles are clean, and the store is an overall great place. I also loved the Scotch selection; probably the best I have seen in the MIdwest. I will definately be stopping back in the next time I am driving through Ames, Iowa.

I really enjoy this store. The selection is great and the store is extremely well organized and clean. Very different from that other store in eastern iowa. The managers know a lot and are very helpful. One of my favorite stores in the midwest.

Good selection for central Iowa. Front counter guy tried to be helpful but just didnít pack the gear to answer some of my questions regarding available stock; additionally he was busy minding the store. He had to re-submit all of my questions to who I assume was the "boss guy", a very busy man standing in the back room with his hands in his pockets and way too important to field my questions himself. Almost knocked me over however in an attempt to sell a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (like it was the Holy frigginí Grail) to some guy who entered the store as I was on my way out with my load...which was minimal inspite of a good selection...would have been lots bigger if the "boss guy" had taken the time to help me out.

Iíve made the drive from Omaha to this place because they often piggyback onto Dirty Johnís orders fom Iowa Distributors. This saves me some drive time to Iowa City.

The selection is pretty good, but the English beers are rampant and Iím guessing theyíre very good because of their super-low alcohol content. They do have higher end beers that are nice and full of alcohol content. I spoke to the owner and he is a nice guy that just likes better beers and doesnít have any competition around. I have to try something else at that place before I say that they keep it great...ícause they have a big window out front that letís the nice sun shine through. They have some competition these days as a HyVee Wine and Spirits has opened up 50 feet away. They seem to not care about their selection as they have old stuff that doesnít sell and new stuff thatís not so great, Iíve had complaints about the Westmalle and I have complaints about the Delerium product I had.

One of the better beer stores close to Nebraska. Has a lot compared to Nebraska, but nothing like Chicago or Milwaukee. If you are needing beer and close it is worth a stop, but there are other options.
