One of the best bottle shops in Europe. Great, great, great selection of beers from the US and Europe and very friendly staff.

Great little store with lots of options. I was able to grab most the beers I was looking for at a decent price. It was pretty cool to see a couple Russian River Brews hidden behind the counter. The staff was super helpful and very knowledgeable. Good place to grab glassware as souvenir gifts.

Ok, so the question I asked myself before going to Amsterdam is, what is the best bottle shop in town? De Bierkoning or The Cracked Kettle. They are a short walk from each other. When I was in Amsterdam in 2010 it was a close call as to which one of the two stores I preferred. They complemented each other and I bought bottles from both places. But I went back in 2011 and it was a totally different story. Bierkoning is totally winning the Amsterdam beer store war. Great selection of Dutch beers (obviously) but also a lot of European beers and even American beers. This place is fun to shop at with its old wooden shelves and warm feeling but this is a tightly packed store and it makes me feel like a bull in a china shop. Staff is usually very busy but when you can talk to someone they are very helpful and knowledgeable. The only negative is the freshness. Here in North-America I don’t complain when I can get a De Molen hoppy beer 9 months after bottling date. But directly in Amsterdam I would expect fresher products. I’ve picked up many beers and put them back on the shelf when I realized they were not fresh (especially De Molen since they have a clearly printed Bottling date). A better inventory management is in order. But that’s a minor complaint. I really love that store, bought many great beers there and can’t wait to go back there.

Impressive little beer shop near the Dom. Small, and cramped full of shelves featuring a, seemingly, endless selection of bottles and glasses of mostly Belgian and Dutch beers, and other rarities from around the globe. Visited during a couple-of-hours layover at Shiphol, so had little time and wasn’t able to purchase anything, but the service seemed nice and prices not that frightening. Will visit again.

Having now visited hundreds of places all over the world, I can safely say that Bierkoning is my #1 choice. It is a very spirited, indy kind of place in attitude and service but the selection is world-class. Just tons and tons and tons of great stuff, geographically arranged. The service can be abrupt, given the location, but they are always happy to talk to fellow beer lovers. Pricing also very reasonable.

Het bier-walhalla van Amsterdam! Heel aardig personeel ook. Alleen jammer dat de winkel niet wat groter is.

Tiny store, conveniently located right next to the Beer Temple, with an excellent range of beers from the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Scandinavia and the USA, lots of glassware as well. Found a few beers that had been on my want list for quite a while. Prices are reasonable, I was expecting much worse, and the staff is knowledgable and friendly.

I had read of how small this place is but I couldn’t believe it when I saw it with my own eyes. Nevertheless, the collection is huge.

Great selection of international beers, sold by a really expert staff. Probably the best beershop in Amsterdam, go and check yourself.

Excellent selection of beers. Good service. Not he greatest value though and the shop could do with some extra square meters.
