I felt like being let loose in a candy store. Amazing selection of Dutch beers, the bock season had just started and the staff was very helpful in picking the style I wanted. Lots of fine Beligan and British beers, too, and the rest of the world is represented, too. A bit thin on US beers, perhaps, but anyone should be able to find some treasures here.

Kind of stumbled upon this accidentally and feel extremely lucky. Service at the counter was shitty, I donít like being completely ignored, even for regulars. Prices were good though, and selection is, of course, staggering.

When Iíve visited De Bierkoning itís usually been late in the afternoon when the shopkeepers have broken out the beers for themselves, making the service ... less stellar than most others here imply. But itís a friendly, personal place (smoky, though) with an astounding selection of local beers. I disagree about the high prices; most of their stuff costs 25-50% of what it would cost in Copenhagen ;-)

Feb. 15th, 06 - Unfortunately, I came just before they closed, so I only had about 10 minutes. I was going for dutch beer, so I only quickly browsed through the other shelves, but it looked good (got some english brews as well). The staff were kind and helpful. By the way: They have a huge selection of glassware. Next time I hope to spend some more time there.

Explaining De Bierkoning is a bit difficult. Visiting it reminds of a feeling you might have long forgotten. The expression "like a kid in a candy shop" has unfortunately grown to a clichť, but the store truly evokes just that. The selection is absolutely enormous covering Belgium and Holland extensively as well as Germany and several other countries. The store itself is fairly small but everything is arranged efficiently and the staff is very helpful. As you enter youíll notice a huge wall of glassware and as you walk down the hall, a few steps lead to the large mezzanine where most of the beers are found. Underneath is a small cellar area that stores a good selection of lambics, notably the full Cantillon lineup and a few rarities. The prices are remarkably cheap, especially when you get used to the import prices of France or the US. Most of the small bottles are in the 1-2Ä range while my most expensive purchase was a Drie Fonteinen 1998 Oude Geuze (!) for less than 11Ä. Be sure to pick up a bottle or more of the ít IJ Vlo (pronounced "tíeye flo"), which is brewed specially for the store owner! I spoke to him for a while and he was very friendly like most people in town. Of course I had bought a suitcase full of beer so it was the least I could expect.

Went here in May of 2003 and thought I had already rated this. Heard about how big a store it was and back then wasnít as saavy into beer hunting as I am now. However, I did manage to pick up 5 different Haerlemsch beers. They also had a bunch of shirts and glasses. Quality store. Canít wait to go back!

Great beer store, with lots of Dutch beers, which were new to me. A good selection of Belgian, German and other Europeans. This place is infinitely browsable.
