I have visited this place some times and I have never ever even gotten close to as bad service as this place have. Last time we waited 1 hour for each beer (4.5 hours for 4 rounds of beers and it was 3-4 beers each round). They where absolutly not sorry about it and didnít give a shit about us. They have some expensive whales on their list so if you have a lot of time and money maby you can tick something you always wanted. My opinion is that it is totally crap and you should go to good places like Kulminator.

Visited several times during trips to Belgium over the past few years. Stayed in the guest rooms once, which was a fun experience. Flipping through the guest book I recognized quite a few names! DHVL has a nice neighborhood restaurant vibe and seems to be packed with locals every night. The food is very tasty and pairs well with the beers. The beer selection is absolutely outstanding. Lots of rarities at reasonable prices. Numerous one-off lambics that were made just for the restaurant though Blauw, Roze, and Crianza are very expensive. A fantastic place that one could easily drink for several hours in.

Great selection of beers. Really good food. Friendly and competent service. Worth a visit - or three... ;-)

Celebrated my birthday here in January 2013. I was looking forward to check this out. It proved to be a brown tavern, quite cosy actually, the beer menu was okay and their selection of bottled beers certainly satisfying, though I had perhaps expected something more considering the hype surrounding this tavern. Rounded off with the Anniversary Blend geuze Lindemans made for them and a five year old vintage of Gouden Carolus Cuvťe van de Keizer. I cannot complain about service, like many other reviewers here do; apparently this has changed meanwhile but when I was there, service was certainly okay. I had a chat with some of the staff outside and they were fairly knowledgeable about beer. All in all a nice experience, glad I have been there and I would consider going back, though the complaints here about the slow and uninterested service nowadays does make me doubt...

Visited a friday afternoon. Was fairly quiet, just a few tables were taken when we arrived, despite that service was extremely slow, staff seemed more interested in eating then serving. When the food finally arrived it was quite good, selection is great but the slow service bring it all down.

One of the best restaurants one can go to for food + beer pairing. The menu is great, shows lots of attention and seems quite labour intensive (for instance the beer sabayons - just marvelous). The quality of the food on the table has impressed me every time, and is a constant reason to go back. I would recommend it to everyone!
The prices for the íregularí beers are very decent. Prices for rare beers are steep, they can become quite costly (but then again, as could be expected, that isnít different in restaurants serving rare wines).

Do keep in mind: the place is a restaurant, one with a love for good beer, but their core business still is to serve food. They seem to dislike people coming in and not ordering any food, and it doesnít seem a priority to give fast service to people just coming to scavenge rare beers from their cellar.

Visited a nice sunny afternnoon and had a table in the nice beergarden. Fairly busy at our visit with mixed crowd having lunch. Nice selection with a about 10 taps and a very long bottle list. Prices on taps and "normal" bottles are fine, for the rare or vintage bottle list it can get rather pricy. Service was nice and friendly, but somewhat slow. Didnt eat, but food looked tasty. Would like to return someday with a bit more time on my hand.

Nice food, nice interior, a greate list of beers. But........ Horrible service. HORRIBLE. I canīt even describe it. I know this place have a good beer cellar but that doesnít mean that you can do whatever you like, and treat your customers with disrespect. I have been here a couple of times but this time the crap-fest went to a whole new level. I can, without a doubt in my heart, say that this place donít want to be a great beer pub. To explain: A good beer pub is proud to have a good quality and a decent quantity of beer. De Heeren van Liedekercke used their beer cellar as an excuse for the HOUR it took for us to get a beer. If we just had ordered "a normal beer", we were told, it would not have taken that long. WTF? Are you kidding me? This crap combined with a total nonchalance towards us and no interest in compensating or apologising. NEVER GOING BACK! In todays beer-world we have better places to explore.

I love the selection at this place. The food is nice and the ambience on the deck out back is great. All of the servers Iíve encountered are friendly, but holy shit the service is slow!!!!! On my last visit I managed to successfully order 3 beers in 3 hours. 2 other orders never made it to my table. I just donít understand how this happens. My wife and I sat there watching the staff take orders, then go in and out of the restaurant without bringing beer to tables. The servers look confused most of the time. Iím confused as to how serving beer gets so complicated. Any kind of service would raise my score considerably. On the positive side.... There are some decent prices on the beer menu. Itís just the stuff sought after by the uber beer nerds that is priced through the roof. For instance, an aged Westy 12 is priced north of 20 Euro while an aged St Bernardus from the same year will set you back 7.
