After Grote Dorst, this was probably the biggest hit of our trip. As well known, the epic vintage list is still in tact, with an awesome selection of rare retired lambics, many of which exclusive to DHVL. Prices have recently risen on some of the whales (Crianza and both J&Js are now 125€ and not available to go, which is probably the right move to stop the hoarding). Service was extremely warm, helpful and generous, offering us a lot of free snacks as a thank you for all the bottles we ordered. The food is also absolutely fantastic, with even usually simple dishes done elegantly and expertly. We stayed the night there in one of the two beautiful rooms out back behind the bar, which was an amazing experience. If you don’t come here when visiting Belgium, you should be ashamed of yourself!

Visited here on the way back from Brussels to have some dinner. We were told that they had the 3Fonteinen Framboos available, 1990 vintage! It was on the menu for 90 euros, fair price for such a rare beer, but unfortunately it wasn’t available anymore. Luckily, their vintage list is very big and their cellar is very deep, so we got another great bottle in stead. Food was absolutely amazing. Had the rib-eye steak with Rochefort sauce and it was superb. Best steak I’ve ever eaten by far, tender meat, great flavors and an awesome sauce. Service was a bit slow a times, but it didn’t really matter. The place is full of beer memorabilla and rare bottles are displayed. (two closed bottles of Millenium Gueuze just standing there..)
Very unique restaurant, truly outstanding and a great example of Belgian cuisine!

Visited this place several times, and looking forward to the next time :-).. I will never forget the first time coming here, I wasn´t at that time to pleased with the sour beers - but during that afternoon I fell in love.. Having these sour beers together with some of the great food they do a this place as well, and that simply did it for me.. This place always makes me feel very welcome, great atmospere, friendly and serviceminded staff welcomes you, great beerlist and the beers are wellserved, together with the lovely food, just makes it for me.. This place, I think is for sure worth travelling for, and I will be back, very soon I hope :-)

Went here for the Liederkercke beer festival, so this rating might not be appropriate for a regular visit. The most amazing selection of beers I have seen at such a small fest, many coming from their cellar. Great food. Looked at the regular bottle menu and it was damn good, though we just drank festival beers. Did not see the "special vintage" menu, but I will next time.

so .. how to describe this place ? food is doable . prices for the ’random’ stuff are OK . but than ...
free bottles they’ve got ( blauw, roze, crianza helena) or chep ones ( heerengeuze coted them 5 euro’s a liter ) are all in the range of nothing less than 125 euro’s. often no takeouts, becouse people would ’ make profit of them ’ ...
no respect at all for the breweries who MADE them . lets await what happens now, since they are not welcome anywhere anymore after their stunt of charging 200 for heerengeuze.
in the end, if you want something special ( why else would you go there ? ) they rip you off. they act like assholes. they have a great beerlist, but ONLEY to make a riciculous amount of money off of it . to me, this is the most harless place towards beer there is .
service was friendly the first time, but the other times i went their, they’re just talking plain bullshit ( aka we dont sell because youd make ebayprofit, we dont sell at all cause we wanna keep em on the list , we dont wanna make profit of these bottles, thats why we charge so much ( dude...??? ) and so on
they’re full of shit, and i dont even wanna drink their fucking specials anymore, as i refuse to pay 125 euro’s for it, of wich 100 % is pure gain for them .
act normal, and show some respect for the brewers .

What a nice bar! I went there on a sunny friday afternoon and got a table in the patio in the back. The waiter fast noticed that I was into beers and got me the vintage list with a very nice selection of specially lambics but also Orval from many different years :-) Besides that they have their own two geuzes from Drie Fonteinen (both currently top 50 beers!) so what more to ask for? The food is nice too!

Visited in 2011. (Reviewed from notes). I spent two weeks in Europe and I did not find anywhere I want to return to more than DHvL. Quiet and homey - the type of place where locals congregate after work - the tap and bottle list blew me away, and the prices were extremely reasonable. The food is absolutely tremendous - the best my wife and I had in our time out in Belgium (and Italy), and our server was patient and helpful as I kept drooling over my next move. We spent 5 hours here, and I’d love to spend 500 more.

Amazing family owned restaurant, probably the best beer restaurant in Belgium. The beer list is huge and super exclusive (crianza Helena and other vintage lambics availables) but a bit pricey. The food is very good and wit perfect marriages with the beers.. They also have two rooms to sleep if u need, call in advance and check the availability!

Fantastic Restaurant! We stopped for lunch and the food was really good. The owner is very helpful and the vintage list is epic almost as the Kulminator one. Here you can find some of the greatest Lambic in the world! Prices are high but it worth the visit, definitely!
