A pub to visit only if you want to experience the standard Amsterdam pubs. Belgian ticks only, nothing interesting. Nice to visit once but I donít think Iíll be back.

De Spuyt has the feel of an old traditional Dutch brown cafe. Good music selection to keep you company with your beers. The selection was mostly Dutch beers & a good mix of Belgian & American beers. The did have some westy too. The prices were quite reasonable compared to other beer bars. Visit here for a relaxed, laid back atmosphere accompanied by some local Dutch beers,

Visited several times since 2011.
Nice bar with a great bottle selection. The available beers are chalked all around the place. Friendly bartender is a plus, highly recommended!

Visited on a Thursday afternoon. The place was empty inside, but there was a couple of persons sitting on the terrace. Interior is nice and cozy and the music is good and not too loud. Service is friendly. Tap selection is limited (at least thereís one from Oedipus) and bottle selection is decent (mostly Belgian, but some Dutch too) Prices are a little high, but reasonable for Amsterdam. Not a bad place to visit when your are in the area.

(Visited Feb 2014) Nice and friendly beer cafť a couple of blocks away from the Leidsesplein. Fairly small with interior in brown wood. Friendly and efficient service. 8 taps, mainly with Dutch and Belgian beers. Didnít find any surprises on tap. Good bottle seelction, not massive, but well chosen. Mainly from Belgium, but some beers from other countries. Interesting selection of Dutch beers, with quite a good selection from Amsterdam brewers. Atmosphere was quite calm and friendly, even for a Saturday evening. Well worth a visit.

Very friendly people running this place. Good selection of Dutch microís. Some worthy Belgians (like Trappists...) good prices and cosy atmosphere. Old brown ish and not big but not small either. Terrace outside. Like the choice of beers from different Dutch breweries they have. Different styles and lot to choose from. Ok, no Arendsnest, but absolutely worth to visit when in the vicinity and looking for different Dutch beers.

Visited on a Monday evening. Was alone for most of the evening, which was actually quite nice considering how packed some of the central places in Amsterdam can be. In Leidseplein which is a super touristy night-clubby douchy part of town but itís at the very edge of all the touristy stuff so itís quite quiet. Really loved the ambiance. Stayed for a full radiohead album and then some, the barmaid was quite friendly and nice. The prices I found to be a tad expensive but still quite reasonable. Tap list is 8 taps, about a 100 bottles half belgian half dutch. They have meat, cheese and soup for snacks. Overall Iíd say a great ambiance, good dive with an O.K. beer selection. Decent.

We (me & my dad) visited here Sunday 10th March 2013. I am quite surprised that I hadnít been here before despite my frequent visits to Amsterdam over the last 5-6 years. It is a small bar just far enough away from a lot of tackiness around Leidsplein even so you run the gauntlet of the type of restaurant where someone is outside trying to entice passers by in. Anyway back to the pub. The beer list was pretty decent there a few Iíd not had, however I stuck to an old favourite Zinnebier. The young barman was very chatty and with íI am Klootí playing in the bacground he had a good taste in music as well. The bar as mentioned is v.small, the bar counter is on the right as you enter with most of the beers displayed on a large chalkboard on the left, most of the seating was off to the left also. We had a couple here (I had two Zinnebiers) before heading back into the centre if the town to de Prael.

Located on one of the most lively street outside the center of Amsterdam is a pretty cool beer bar named De Spuyt. A little touristy than the town center pubs the patrons seem to be a bit more trendy student type, at least when I visited. Alternative music at acceptable level. Tap selection is limited with about 6 lines (Jopen, Brouwerij ít IJ and some belgiums) so the extensive bottle selection is the main attraction beer-wise. Selection is about half Dutch, half Belgium (including Westys). I had a bottle of ít IJ Columbus which somehow wasnít available at the ít IJ brewpub during my visit there. Friendly relaxed atmosphere. Overall worth a pit stop and the street is pretty lively so it is a fun surrounding.
