This was a hell of a place, granted I was there in the middle of the day, but I donít see how that is a bad area. I was in for the Vintage Ale Fest so the selection was out of this world. It was just starting to get crowded as I was leaving, and with everyone just getting 1oz samples it was begining to get problematic. The smoke did make me long for a smoking ban, but what can you do.

Before yesterday, the last time I was at Delilahís was about 15 years ago, listening to a buddy of mine spin Iggy Pop and other vintage punk goodies. It doesnít look like the inside has gotten a new coat of paint since then, but I canít remember the beer selection being this good either.
Back in the day, Delilahís was known primarily as a Whisky bar and a damn good one at that. Their reputation as such is still in good standing but that rep may taint the opinion of the place for those simply looking for a good beer.
The joint can get really crowded, especially at an event like the Vintage Beer Fest. (It was brought up that this problem could be solved, in part, by REMOVING THE BAR STOOLS from the downstairs bar.) Also the amount of smoke hanging around may get in the way of your tastebuds. Plenty of tchockes and low-brow art keep your eyes occupied while your other senses deconstruct a nice Belgian.
Donít let some of the other reviews scare you away from Delilahís. (Even the Tour Guideís comments regarding "fondling"... WTF is that?) Just leave your kids at home, grow a pair and belly up.

An interesting place. Dark, cramped, populated largely by people I wouldnít want to meet in a dark alley. However, they had a pretty good tap and bottle selection (including some westy bottles). Prices were not cheap, but this is Chicago.

(12.10.05) Visited this bar for the first time to attend their annual 2005 Winterfest brew festival. A cozy worn-looking old bar with two floors. Bathrooms rather grubby looking. Nice big TV screens mounted on the walls. Couldnít tell if there was porno films playing as I was focusing on my beer samples. Upstairs level is quieter, peaceful. Packed with a beer-loving crowd of mixed ages and sexes. Loud skanky-looking women and drunken young men abound, trying to push their way to the bar. Mike Miller, the owner, and his employees were very attentive in pouring their samples and it looked like that they were actually having fun with the patrons. A large refrigerator was off to the side and was stuffed with all sorts of goodies like Rochefort and Westvleren Belgium ales. Picked up my first Westys from Mike. Exceptional variety of bottled beers. Wouldnít mind revisiting this place again.

OK tap selection, much better bottle selection. Interesting dark brooding atmosphere for urban pessimists and Rob Zombie devotees.
On a side note, the Red Line does NOT stop at Diversey as implied in the Tour Guides Comments. For that youíd need to transfer to the Brown Line (which DOES stop at Diversey) at the Fullerton or Belmont stops, which isnít worth the bother unless youíre a lazy bum - just walk from the Fullerton stop; itís a 5-minute walk.

Nice grungy, punkish, comfortable kind of a joint that Iíd spend more time at if I was a northsider. Iím sure theyíre not up to building codes, what wiith the stairway and funky johns, but thatís cool. Great selection of beer, which is what itís about for me. The folk behind the bar know their suff, too. This is a repeater.

Went with Frank after hitting Clark St. A small hole in the wall with few people at the early evening weekday time we were there. We had a bad vintage barley wine on tap. However, as I was ready to be upset, we looked through the beer cooler. Deus, Unibroue 11, Rochefort, Westy. Wait, Westy? Gotta be the 8. Bartender says no, it is the 12! With no hesitiation Frank and I split a bottle. The bottle selection here was the saving grace.

This is a fun, divy, pseudo-punk bar that would probably have been closer to my scene 10 years ago. I visited recently with a 53-year-old friend (Iím 38) and we stood out like sore thumbs, much older and much less body-pierced/tattooed. The music made conversation near-impossible; the service was friendly, but they were out of a lot and what I had was served a bit too cold. Sure, Iíd kill for this place in Burlington, but itís outmatched by several Chicago places.

Unfortunately, I have to knock down my rating of this place. It used to be one of my favorites but has fallen from my grace. Simply put, they donít take care of their beer. More and more frequently, their drafts are soured and foul. I cannot abide by such nonchalance in beer maintenance. The bartenders all seem very knowledgeable about beer though which makes it all the more tragic that their beer is so poorly cared for. For the record, thereís one cute waitress there who totally wants me. I have dibs. Back off!
Original rating: Delilahís is always a good time. It might be a little loud for serious beer-tasting but itís a great place to drop by for a pint or ten of some tasty brews. The selection is excellent and I swear thereís more than six taps. Thereís also a good selection of whiskey too if your into that. Most nights have some sort of theme to them so you might want to avoid it on certain nights if you arenít willing to listen to some kind of a music or another. If you see a guy with shaggy hair and a flannel shirt alternating between fine Belgians and PBR, feel free to say hi. I donít bite.

mungrag needs to figure out how to properly rate places; he/she is artifically hurting the overall ratings. When I was at Delilahís last weekend, they had some old soft porn going on the TVs. Was actually kind of cool. If I had seen what gasspasser saw, I might have had a different impression of the place, however. I agree with him though in his comment about it being dirty. I donít know if it is actually dirty per se, but it is kind of dingy and eclectic. You will see some strange decor, including a bronze bust of Elvis, a bronze Miss Piggy lamp and some nude wall art. Walk up the well worn wooden stairs to the upper level for a little bit different scene. Not exactly my usual type of hang out, but if I lived in Chicago I would probably go there with some frequency if I determined they had some beers I couldnít get at either the Map Room or at Samís.
