There are 25+ taps of international beers, from mediocre to great. This place is aimed at the young mass market, and is doing very well at that. There are about 30 tables and a dozen barstools, and it gets really busy at peak times. It’s located in a complex of Delirium bars, including the original cafe, an absinthe bar, a tequila bar and a rum bar. Not an authentic Belgian beer cafe, but offers a lot of possibilities.

This place is marginally better than the total chaos death and destruction that reign below. The air is a bit more breathable, the selection has a few more interesting choices on it, the service doesn’t seem quite as impatient. Still the fact that it’s in the same building is a bit too much for me, it’s cramped and dirty and just generally not very enjoyable. You can have some good beer here though.

The whole place (including the Café and cellar) is very touristy. In the Loft you have to be lucky: with regular guests it’s a nice place, but when a group of tourists enters it’s a whole other story (and since it’s mentioned on tourist maps, I think this happens quite often).
Aside the ambiance and the clientele, the place is quite good. The beer selection isn’t as extensive as downstairs (you can also get your beer there and take it up though), but they have some good Belgian beers and surprising micro-brews, even on tap. Service was a little less: I think the bartender knew a lot about beer, but he was reluctant to share his knowledge or give some good advice. Luckily, they have a great deal: you can order three taster glasses (10cl) of the beers on tap for 6 euro. We ordered six different beers and were happily surprised.
So, all in all, we had a great time and I would come back, but it’s not the ideal place to taste and enjoy your beers in peace.

Top floor under the roof in the Delirium building. Could have been cozy, but its to hot, to crowded, to noisy at our 2 visits to really enjoy. Some good, some not so good beer on tap. A long bottle list aswell, but i didnt venture into that. Service was little lacking, at one point he left the bar for most of 10 minutes, and at another was drinking shots with friends instead of serving customer. Come early, or maybe very late if you wanna tick the beers here.

very calm, everywhere its crowded, here we’re alone? and they have the best beers here? weird, but hey, id rather have it like this ! cool place to hang out, nice bartender,... the american ’rarities’ are cheaper than expected, the belgians are a lot more expensive than usual.. toerists? prob. .. but its their good right, they gotta eat too :)
Rerate after several visits . Service is always nice and passioned , selection seems to be way smaller , nut still insane . 50 % off at 2 pages , making several us beers cheaper than local retail prices . Thats just insane . Once tasted a sink the bismark for free , today i got a free beer upon purchasing 4 bottles to take out . Hard to admit , that besides my hate for the other drlirium pubs ( service is worst than you can imagine ) this is one of the best pubs in Belgium .

Went on a saturday, was supposed to be more quiet than downstairs but there were lots of young and loud people there. The bartenders did not contribute by turning up the music as the shouting increased. Guess a saturday is the wrong day to go there...
Having an ignorant bartender when ordering did not contribute either, The selection of international beers was quite good.

Service depends hugely on the bartender. Don’t go on tuesdays (and wednesdays), because then you get an incompetent bartender. However, if you on on thursd/frid/sat, it will be a bit more crowded, but the service will be lots better. The female bartender then has a great knowledge of the beers served and is always very friendly.
Selection is quite nice, always some new foreign beers on tap.
It’s a lot more quiet in there then the downstairs delirium cafe.
Prices are high (9,9 euro for a Hel en Verdoemnis), but when you drink on tap, it’s ok. 3 tasters for 6 euro.
Beer geeks should definitly go over there and have a look ;)

Have to update the place, last one was two years ago.
Sadly what I mentioned in my previous rate turned out to be true.
You want to have an extensive beer list? then you have to be ready to sell it. Last few times at Hoppy all I saw was discount on bottles that have expired. Yup, selling an IPA that’s over 6 months past is not good, even with a discount, and worse, for a place that claims to have a good list. With the volume of crappy Huyghe beers that are sold, you can’t tell me that you can’t have better prices on craft bottles when you clearly do between 250- 300% on the original price.
The draft menu, which could be great, is polluted by below average Huyghe beers that pale in comparison with the quality that they are trying to sell at Hoppy Loft. Why sell such low value beers in what ought to be an upscale place?
Next is the issue of the staff, some great folks very knowledgable in beers seem to be gone, and at times whoever works there offers just a spotty service and clearly has no knowledge of craft beer. I am sorry, but if I buy a 20 euro bottle I am expecting some quality here.
And last, but that never changed, the atmosphere despite being quiet, is lacking from the dirty broken down bathrooms to the Hoppyloft room that has zero outside light coming in do not help.
As it stands, the place is good to visit for ticks on some of the draft (even there they put beers that are clearly passed date, does Porterhouse or Flying Dog ring a bell? then why buy 10 kegs of the same beer?).
Updated June 2012. A lot of new beers coming in. Sadly, I think someone out there is really jacking up the price at times 2-3 folds rendering a lot of the beers totally uninteresting to even sample unless you have some friends with you willing to split the cost.
Luckily, the tap list is interesting, but please, please, get rid of the shitty Huyghe beers.
Atmosphere is nice, going from the quiet near empty, to the annoyingly loud and crowded. I guess in terms of atmospeher, no windows to even see outside, with a few serving trays, etc. Not much to speak of. 2-8-13-7-15

Thanks to Antoine for letting me know about the menu;
Visited during a Thur evening, just two of us up there, no smoking issue this time. Huge selection of American and Danish beers.
Some can get very pricey while others are reasonable, especially for a 50cl bottle that when split with a friend is no more expensive than some Belgian beers.
Delirium’s upper floor dedicated to US and Scandinavian beers.
After looking at the menu, I found that there were only a few US beers on tap and the list had just all Belgian beers. Did not see any Scandinavians on the list, unless I missed something.
Three of the beers on their list were not available. I honestly did not see much of a difference with the bars on the other two floors.
Place was horribly smoky with all the smoke of the two floors rising up to that level. Not much of a service to speak of, order at the bar. But again, I get awesome service downstairs when the place is not busy.
Loud, touristy in the evening and sadly, the Hoppy Loft doesn’t open until 6pm.
I still prefer going to the basement pub around 10.30-11am when most of the crowd has yet to show up.

A lot of variety in the bottle menu (some bottles at good price and others a little expensive). Very quiet ambiance (almost no music).
