On a brisk monday afternoon one might enter to find this celebrated bar empty, as I did in early december. However at the Dieu du Ciel you are always in the company of friendly service and a 9 tap row; sure enough as the Montreal sun goes down, regular patrons will take their cue along the wooden bar. Brewer Jean-Francois was about, preparing a fresh line of ale, and then found time for tour of his facilities. The Dieu du Ciel has a compact brewing system, as for every batch they produce 5 hectoliters of beer (~132 us gal) (Not sure on this; true?) . This brewing capacity ensures fresh beer on tap and allows Jean-Francois creative space to experiment with recipes, as any brewer would desire. The brewery is said to begin a full line of bottled beer in the near future, however the bar and atmosphere will remain the core of this Montreal gem.

Great beer! That was my draw. There were sandwiches and chip baskets on the go, but didn’t eat here. I can without hesitation recommend the beer though.

Been wanting to visit for a couple of years - and it didn’t disappoint. Very attractive inside, definitely a beer place, lots of tables, space broken up nicely, brewing paraphenalia visible - excellent. Staff are francophone, but good english, very welcoming and helpful - no problem with my mixed bag of 3oz tasters and half-pints - cheap too! Didn’t eat, can’t speak for the food, but recommended - I would spend a lot of time here - amazing stouts!

Nice little brewpub with a good choice of their superb beers. Two minor notes: i) as of mid-August 2006, you could still smell the smoke left by years of smoking but it is a great improvement of before that by-law came into effect and ii) every time I go some of their beers announced on their website are not available; I guess people rush in when they see that Aphrodisiaque is available!

Username "BitchesBrew" and I became "regulars" here during a four day stay in Montreal for the Jazz Festival. I was overwhelmed by the ever-changing selection of brews on tap. I had to balance my intense desire to try every one with my intense desire to remain coherent (and standing upright). Not much to say about this place other than that it’s basically as good as a brewpub can get. Friendly, helpful staff, decent European-ish "bar" food, a great place. Proper glassware, always a plus. Best brewpub I’ve ever been to. A++

I visited this brewpub on a thurs evening. It was crowded (but places to sit did exist) and noisy. I sat at the bar and tried each of the beers they had available. They offered an impressive list of interesting beer styles. The food offerings were very limited and the service was acceptable but not great.

The best brewpub in Montreal, hands down. Top quality beers, friendly staff and some nice food-- the best time to visit is late afternoon. Though it gets crowded late at night, if you can find a corner and post up for the night, you’ll really be living. Regular releases of world class beers are available regularly.

Went here a couple times over a few days. The atmosphere was laid back and fun on a Wednesday night. Thursday was loud and crowded with a much larger crowd. Of course the beer is excellent and the staff is very knowledgeable. An excellent brewpub. Abosolutely deserves the praise it recieves. About as good as a brewpub gets.

Terrific beer. Wide range of styles. Excellent service. Fun, laid back, atmosphere. Staff is friendly. Small menu, but the food is high quality. Enjoy every visit. Unlike all other brewpubs in Montreal, the smoke generated by the "smoke-happy" patrons is sucked up by a great ventilation system. By far, the best brewpub in Montreal. If I owned a pub, this would be it!

Have been to this place so many times and every time I LOVE it.....such a great ambiance, incredibly nice people and absolutely tremendous beers....met the owners and brewer several times and this is just an incredible place....did I mention I love this place.....The food selection is not great, not much choice but it is very good (try the salmon bagle) but hey it is a bar not a restaurant. First bar I visit when I’m in Montreal...and I will keep going back!!! Absolutley recommended..
