80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20
Viisted June 1, 2014.
Stopped on the way back from CT for some dinner before dropping the car off. This is a really interesting place. Pretty good beer selection, decent to good food, decent service, really cool atmosphere. Itís not the best BBQ Iíve ever had but itís pretty good. Same can be said about the beer selection. The ribs were well done but the sauce was good. The best part of the meal was the Reeseís peanut butter pie. Also of note: they have a house beer made by Middle Ages. The tap handle is pretty cool:
But as it turns out itís just a rebrand of the Ape Hangar Pale Ale. It was buttery but that (for the only time that I can ever remember) turned out to be a good thing since it worked with the food. I donít know enough about BBQ in NYC to tell you if this is the best around but itís definitely good and since I havenít been up to Bronx Brewing or Gun Hill yet (assuming I get back to NY again) Iíll probably stop by.

Iím a vegetarian and managed to really enjoy myself at dinosaur, even without eating any meat. Plenty of options of sides for this vegetarian which were terrific. Nice beer list. It can get packed on Friday and the weekend so be prepared to wait.

Nice big urban BBQ joint. Super packed on a Friday night. Was told there was a 2 hour wait, but my group got lucky and we were able to get 3 seats at the bar and just ate there. Decent selection with some national staples like DFH 90min and quite a few local options which was nice to see. Let me say that the food was really good for NYC BBQ. Brisket was as good as any I had in Texas and prices were pretty good for NYC. Definitely worth a stop for dinner and a beer. May want to try during the week to avoid the crowds.

Sort of a high class Applebees. The wall are lined with various knick-knacks and local flair. More restaurant then bar, but the saving grace is the selection. Almost all the taps are micro brews and usually a pretty varied selection. Bartenders were knowledgeable, friendly and fast. Crowd is very mixed, mostly 20ís and 30ís. Food is decent

I loved this place! Big space with an industrial character, yet somewhat rustic feel. While waiting for a table a guy walked by with a steaming plate of hot cornbread, which he served me, and it was probably the best cornbread Iíve ever had! Honey and butter are smeared on it! The bar is limited, but solid. About 20 taps of micros. Nothing too rare. Their house beer Ape Hanger isnít great, but not bad either. The food was really good. Southern style BBQ. Rich and delicious. I had a 1/4 chicken, a 1/4 ribs, spiced/whipped yams and steamed greens. The staff was really friendly as well. Attentive and helpful, even on the bustling Friday night. Awesome!

If you love barbecue and beer, you would be hard-pressed to find a better option than Dinosaur BBQ. The food is excellent and the beer selection was substantial. Allagash, Southern Tier, Troegs, Brooklyn Brewery, Dogfish Head - the list goes on. Plus they have an in-house brew, Dinosaur Ape Hanger. Also - and this warms my heart - they have some great sub-premium canned beers: Schlitz, PBR, and Genesee Cream Ale. Genny! They also offer a flight of beers; that is, four 4oz glasses, which allows you to sample their beers. Overall Dinosaur Barbecue is a great haunt. I canít wait to return.
