66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 hockeybeerguy (3) Portland, Maine | January 12, 2013 The atmosphere, well, the beer is cold and on the side close to the cashier and the warm stuff is in the back. I found some good stuff but had to look. The store was pretty small. The quality was pretty good, there were a lot of brews that could be considered obscure and a fair amount of the Maine brands were found as well. The service, well, there was just the girl up front and she didn’t bother me until I was ready to pay. I didn’t take anything negative on that since I usually know what I’m looking for. The selection was about normal for a small New England beer store or liquor store with beer stashed here and there. The prices were reasonable, about the same as elsewhere. I would go back if I was in the old port again, the only bad thing is the parking. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 13/20 Sammy (466) Toronto, Ontario | August 16, 2012 nice "gourmet food" setup, and a decent number of bottles in the trendy West district. Not as many bottles as Tulley’s, by a big margin. More pricey distributed bottles. More Shelton Brothers bottles than anything else. But that was good for me, and passed over bottles of Stillwater and of Dugges enabled me to catch up on his saisons. A little pricey. Still nice street to shop. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 Grady546 (10) Bath, Maine | April 2, 2012 I love this little store! It is small, but for the size, the beer selection is good. I frequently find beers here I can’t at other local retail stores. Last time i was in I picked up some signed BFM bottles, which was super cool. Their beer guy is quite knowledgeable and friendly. I stop in whenever I’m in the Old Port, and usually leave with a big box of beer! | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Lukaduke (34) Portland, Maine | March 8, 2012| Updated July 3, 2012 Great local shop for me. Nolan knows his stuff, if he is around definitely tell him what you like and ask him what he would recommend! Prices are very fair on beer and the selections change pretty frequently but has been lacking a bit during these grey winter months after the holidays ! | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 kreid27 (11) Maine | November 21, 2011| Updated July 3, 2012 Nice little beer store right on Commerical. The store is small, but has a great selection for the space. Some great imports and American micros. I found a few bottles here I haven’t found anywhere else in the area. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Parking can be a bit of a pain. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jkwood04 (43) Connecticut | October 25, 2011| Updated July 3, 2012 A good little beer store. A nice selection of all of the Maine breweries, some Belgians and northeast beers. Had Struise Pannepot when I was there, which I thought was awesome. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 AguynamedTodd (89) Illinois | October 11, 2011| Updated July 3, 2012 A small store on a street along the touristy waterfront/harbor. Selection included local and some regional beers as well as the more popular imports. I bought a Thomas Hooker Imperial Porter, which is from Connecticut. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 swoopjones (230) Buffalo, New York | September 7, 2011| Updated July 3, 2012 nice selection, was hoping to fine Maine Beer Co"s Lunch, but no. Solid belgians, Nice Evil Twin selection, some Maine stuff, DFH, etc. Seems to be the stop in Portland | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (315) Cincinnati, Ohio | August 22, 2011| Updated July 3, 2012 This store was just across the parking lot on the same block as our hotel on Commercial Street in downtown Portland. The guy working there was friendly enough to point out a couple places we were looking for on the map. We walked around the store for a bit after that and found a surprisingly nice bottle selection with a good variety and fair prices. Could have gotten some good stuff here if we weren’t flying home, so my options were limited. Lots of good local Maine stuff, including the super-small breweries. Fair amount of foreign bottles mixed in, and lots of good stuff in the coolers. I was impressed for what they had in here, given the location and fairly small space. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 TURDFERGUSON (147) Carrboro, North Carolina | August 15, 2011| Updated July 3, 2012 Hit this up by chance as I was walking around Portland with my folks. Solid little store but didn’t have anything that really stood out to me, especially when compared to RSVP liquors. Too small and limited of a selection and the prices seemed higher than I had seen. I still bought a bottle of Hitachino Nipponia cuz I hadn’t seen that anywhere yet. |
