Really mediocre brewpub beer. Nice brunch and dinner menus though. Great place to eat, I just wish theyíd get a bit more adventurous. I mean isnít the point of a brewpub to rotate your taps at a blinding pace? As long as Iíve paid attention in the past year the seasonal has been the Alt. The others have likewise not changed. Can get insanely crowded on busy nights

Nice atmosphere, I like the mash tun and conditioning tank that are in the main room of the restaurant. Service was pretty good, nothing amazing. The selection seems to be like one class of brewpubs - they only have their own beers on tap. Their beers are ok, they all seem to have somewhat harsh hop bitterness. I didnít have any food, just their beer sampler. The value is pretty good - pints are only $3, and the sampler with 7 4oz-ish samples for $6.50. Overall, a pretty nice place.

I really liked the semi-classy atmosphere. The copper bar added a nice touch {i bet it is a bitch to clean though}. Unfortunately, it altered the appearance of the beers which made rating a tad difficult. I went here for an early lunch, and even though it was empty when I walked in, it was pretty busy by the time I left. The two bartenders were happy to just let me sit down and rate. Even though they did not really know anything about the actual brewing process, they had a good idea about the differences between each of the beers {which ranged from a little worse than average to a little better than average}. Didnt try the food.

Visited for lunch on a Friday. The service was good, but the waitress could not tell me very much about the beer, except that the IPA was hoppy. I liked the food, but not the beers. They have typical sandwich/ pub fare, but with a few extra touches.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon when UT was on a break. Really nice looking place in a cool location. The beer was decent. Food was typical of US brewpubs. Overall pretty nice.

cool location, service is just college students that donít know/care much about what they are selling/talking about, much less the beer. pretty cool atmosphere, can be a little too teeny bop, I mean college, but not too bad.. the selection is ok, brewing thier own beer is a good touch. Pretty good place but have expectations...

The setting is one of the nicer historic downtown store-turned-brewpubs that I have visited. Food is decent-to-above average. Brew selection is weak and all seem to favor British yeast and no bold flavors. Stick to the porter and stout if you are forced to try the beers in this establishment. Nice sidewalk patio and bar area. Waitstaff is generally the interchangeable, working-through-college types who will always vary from the knowledgeable hit to a sad miss. The "seasonal" brew has been the Alt uninterrupted for at least the last 8 years. Donít go here for the beer. In fact donít go here at all; thereís a dozen places with much better food and atmosphere within easy walking distance of this place.

I went on a Saturday around 1 PM for a late lunch. Not crowded at all. They had six beers in the sampler, but they gave me seven (an extra IPA) as one of the seasonals was gone, which I thought was good business. The beers were below average to really good. It seemed like the darker the beer, the better the quality, which is odd since Iím more of a pale ale guy. The building is beautiful and spacious. Parking wasnít the easiest, but they did have a garage in the back. They were very accommodating as we had a 14-month old baby with us. Food was above average, although a little pricey. The pretzels with beer cheese were okay, but the beer cheese didnít have much beer flavor to it. All in all, it was a nice little visit and the place is very nice looking and clean. The waitress was very nice, although not the most knowledgeable in regards to beer. Iíd definitely go back, and I bet during the school year on a Friday night, this place is probably a good place to hang out

My experience has been different than others below. Rating of three visits with near-identical resluts. Casual but not especially comfortable feel. Barebones table service... seldom-seen waiters seem to have little knowledge of what the beers taste like, what is actually on draft, daily specials, or any of the menu items. Standard pub grub, closer in quality to (and occasionally worse than) fast food than to fern bar. The beers Iíve had ranged from average plus to awful. Check was wrong twice. At best, barely adequate overall.

One of my favorite locations in downtown Knoxville because it has such a lively and healthy atmosphere. Nice settup inside with an old wooden floor and bar and there is even a working brewery setup. The service has always been amazing even when it is really busy on friday nights and they all seem to be fond of the microbrews and will talk to you about them. One time after some conversation my waitress even brought me a home brew that only the staff knows about. The menu offers a good variety. The fish and steak entrees are superb and a friend said that the best burger he ever had was from here. Your missing out if you live in Knoxville and havent hit up this place yet.
