(Visited 09/2013): Duck Island Saloon is located in the Fremont/Ballard area of northern Seattle. Not sure about parking as I walked there and it is located on a fairly busy road. It is on Aurora Ave off Winona near Green Lake.

The interior of the red building opens directly to a small bar. There are a few seats at a counter on the right, then an elevated bar on the left that uses reclaimed vehicle seats. Pinpall and pool in the rear of the space, plus tap handles hanging from the ceiling. Kind of seedy but not in a bad way.

There are around 20 beers on tap including regional brewers like Elysian, Orlison, Worthy and Logsdon. Decent amount of bottles as well, again with many Seattle and regional breweries.

Service on a weekday afternoon was pretty good. The bartender was attentive and seemed to have a pretty good grasp of the beer selection.

I did not have any food on this visit.

Overall I wouldnít necessarily go out of my way just to visit this spot but given the proximity to ‹ber Tavern and other spots it may warrant a stop.

A particular place, very small, feeling more tight than cozy with all in all 30 seats or so yet a varied crowd occupying those restricted seats. Leather jackets seemed to be ubiquitous, and so did old jeans and white t-shirts. Loud speakers were the norm, yet I can easily imagine spending a couple of hours here if I get involved in the conversation of one of the other of those apparently social and open-minded folks who hang in here. It is so close to Uber Tavern that it makes sense to pop in and have a look at the draught list, but I cannot call it a Seattle essential. Still, the tap list includes enough good stuff that it would stand high in terms of selection in most other cities.

Pinball machines were cool. Cosy little place near Uber. Food is brought in from Bethís restaurant. Got kind of a wierd vibe in the place and went to Red Door and Brouwers after one beer.

Small place located near my favorite non-craft brew local: Kangaroo & Kiwi. Tremendous selection and great bar staff just waiting to supply good recommendations. Space is tight, but itís rarely so crowded that thatís a problem. This is a great place to stop late at night if youíre in the mood for something different - or some pinball or pool.

The ambiance is pure formica funk! The food is actually from next door, but itís good, and they walk it over to you. The location is great right off Greenlake. But the best part of this place is the beer! the selections are awesome! they manage to get beers that no one else in Washington has. A great place to be a misanthropic beer geek!

Just down from Uber. Had a crazy night at Uber and ended up at Duck Island; donít ask how I got there. Letís just say it all started with the "toss of a disk". Anyways, the bar are is fairly cramped. They have pool tables, and a lot of taps hanging from the ceiling. The "manager", who was some hot woman I wanted to ask out, came outside saw my friends and I drinking and nearly had a heart attack. The point is we had her as our server inside as well, and she had an attitiude, but I love a woman with a temper. She still gave great service. Met the owner he was very nice. The bar area was a bit cramped, but the selection, again, was pretty good. The bottle selection was also great. Not the typical bar from what I have experienced since being in Seattle, but still a decent place, if you donít want to go to Uber.

Been driving and even walking by this place for years now pretty silly that I havenít stopped in before this weekend. Thanks to BVC for motivating the stop. Great divey little spot with a couple dozen good taps. No bottles, but they have some well-chosen liquors up on the shelves. Friendly service the manager, Jeremiah, was hanging out even when he wasnít on, which speaks well for how little the place gets on the staffís nerves, which in turn makes for a nice place for the crowd. Has a funky layout with narrow passages and steps up and down good little drunk traps. Couple of pinball machines and such. You could easily spend some time here, and the tap list evidently always has something on thatís hard to get elsewhere, along with several things that are just plain good to drink. Iíll definitely be back.

You thought the Uber Tavern was a little seedy? This place fills up with bikers, leather-goths and crazy ex-football players around last call on a Saturday. But when I was there they had Double Dead Guy and Abyss on tap, and the barkeep sold me a bottle of Full Sail Top Sail right over the counter, brown paper bag style.
