64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 13/20 TizzleJizzle (17) Garland, Texas | March 21, 2013 At a big ass mall. Service was great, one of the bartenders said this next beer is on the house. Really sweet gesture by her. They also have a full service restaurant. Their monster grilled cheese and Kobe burgers were delicious. Good selection of liquor, only limited to about 10 DuClaw beers tho, so I was kinda bummed about that. Priced fairly. I’d stop by again | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Beergeek23322 (25) Chesapeake, Virginia | March 18, 2013 Great service, great beer, great food. Definitely a place to stop by when you’re at the mall. | 60 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 12/20 Dixonian (121) Dallas, Texas | January 11, 2013 Nice little brewpub in a shopping mall- first for me. Great happy hour with beer and food specials. My waitress didn’t know much about their brews which was disappointing but overall a decent place. | 56 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 8/20 Beerman6686 (92) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | November 6, 2012 Ambiance is not very inviting, big barely dining room and bar area a little better overlooking the parking lot. Service was ok, but nothing special, waitress didn;t know anything about the beers. Selectionw as decent considering there were probably about 16 of their beers on tap which was nice. Food was pretty solid too, got a burger. Value is low as the beers arent too expensive, but they are pretty bad, and the growler fill I got was really expensive just for the glass. Overall, only worth stopping if you;re in the mall. | 58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 11/20 GT2 (346) Riverslime, California | October 8, 2012 Next door to the enormous Egyptian Cinemark movie theater inside the gargantuan suburban sprawl of Arundel mills mega mall complex. Interior is drab, undecorated, almost like temp space in the mall. Main dining room is sit down only. There is a sports bar attached with patio seating. Not a complete dinner menu if eating at the bar area. Still, everything for food from burgers to paninis to buffalo wings. Had the eggplant panini. It was pretty decent. Beers can all be ordered within a sampler flight. Can do 6 at a time or all of them at once for $18 or something. Beers are all house beers. Only 3-4 seasonals and then their year round stuff. The Bad Moon Porter was light years better than their other stuff. Most are sweet and very alcoholic. Interesting place to drop by if unfortunately stuck in the mega mall complex. | 90 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 DocLock (144) Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania | July 19, 2012 Had dinner here with the family. It was a decent mall restaurant as far as decor. The beer sampler was 16 strong with many rarities and IPAs/IIPAs. The food was well above average, the service was outstanding, and the overall experience was top notch. One of the best brewpub experiences I have ever had. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 ben4321 (163) Hoboken, New Jersey | May 29, 2012 We decided to stop off at Arundel Mills, so clearly I was at least going to get some craft beer to go along with all the shopping...
This had a mall restaurant feel from the outside, and (what I recall as) a typical DuClaw feel on the inside. They were running all the standards plus 3 special pours and a nitro on my visit. The food I have had has always been pretty good. The service was kind of weak for a half empty lunch-time, but that’s not a huge concern. | 70 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 gsmitty80 (169) Washington DC | May 7, 2012 Nice branch of the brewpub, better than the one in Bowie IMHO. Bartenders were very nice and fun to talk to. They were running a special on the oak barrel stouts which were excellent. I didn’t eat food but it looks good and I will have to sometime. | 50 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 10/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | February 19, 2012 If you absolutey musy come to this place, turn right and entrr the bar area. Eight taps, nothing unusual. But better than the cavernous and characterless restaurant portion. In fact, better to pass this place and go to Baltimore if you’re heading north, or Franklins if you’re heading south. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 ultrashuai (25) Bloomington, Indiana | October 10, 2011 I don’t normally even try these mall brewpubs. It’s not really snobbery so much as several previous bad experiences with them. The beer is often terrible, the atmosphere is that of a Cheesecake Factory, and the servers know beer like I know nuclear physics.
But DuClaw seems to be the exception on this and I’m really glad I went. I stopped by just before returning my rental car. The rental car center for BWI is actually just a couple of miles from here. Arundel Mills is one those sprawling messes of a suburban shopping mall, with a ring road, complex access points and ridiculous parking lot. DuClaw is on the northeast side of the mall by the googlaplex cinema.
Interior features a restaurant area and a smaller (but still relatively large) bar area off to the right. A sign alludes to smoking only in the bar area, but I believe smoking is no longer allowed at all. Bar area has TVs everywhere and features a nice patio area and big windows.
Twelve taps when I went, all of them very interesting. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about most of the beers, being able to articulately describe them and compare them to beers from other breweries. They do samplers of six for $9 or of all 12 for $19. If you do math on that one, it doesn’t come out, but most of the beers were too high gravity for me to dwell too long, so I got six of the more interesting ones.
The Sawtooth, I think, was the most interesting. Described as an Imperial Wit, it had a much stronger body than I would have expected. Serum (double IPA) was excellent, and everything else I had that day was very good. I wish I had known about this place earlier.
What’s really cool is that they have custom coasters for each of their beers, even their seasonals or specialties. Each coaster has an artist design on it, mirroring what’s on the tap.
The sampler price was a little high, but pints were reasonable, going anywhere from $4 to $6 for the higher gravity beers. But they do a weekday happy hour from 3-7pm, where they take $2 off the beers. Something to check out, certainly. I wish I had know that before I came at 2pm. |
