Atmospheric old style Belgian boozer on the main square in Ghent. Interior is old world dark and dingy. Beer list is excellent although prices are high and extortionate for some things like the aged Oraval. I had a 24 months aed Orval for about 14Euros. I know, but I was tired and fed up because Waterhuis and lots of the other bars were closed for holiday (welcome to Belgium - they are still in the 1970s when it comes to opening hours). Beer was very good though and this was a good place to meet other fellow travellers. Tried the house blonde ale which was overly sweet. When I asked who brewed it for them the barman said íwe are not allowed to sayí. Another bizarre service experience in Belgium. Iíd come here again though. Like the atmosphere and itís got an old fashioned feel to it. Sit out in the square if the weathers nice.
Another centrally located beer pub with a certain atmosphere and a good selection of Belgian beer. Service was fair and prices were not the lowest, but fair enough. Not a must visit in my book, but still worth a visit.
Classic Ghent beer pub, with a large interior divided into different rooms, brown and old, actually very cosy for such a big place. Service can be slow and stubborn at times and the pub closes stricly at 1 h 30, when the lights switch on, the music stops and youíre obliged to leave the premises. The owner usually hangs around the bar inconspicuously. Beer selection is extended to a few hundreds but the last time I went here, I did not find anything I hadnít already tasted before and itís primarily the usual larger and family brewers being represented here. I was more fascinated by the hugue collection of beer paraphernalia everywhere, including the old beer cans behind the bar. Nevertheless an agreeable boozer, cosy in winter, relaxing in summer outdoors on the market square.
Very nice interior ... Itís not the best place for the "real" beer geek but the place worth a visit for sure .. We had the house beer in the famous big long glass so we left our shoes as guarantee that it turns funny if youíre already a bit drunk .. I had the red house beer and I found it better than the blonde version ..the bad thing was the service of the lady at the bar who never smiled and refused to recharge our mobile sayng they didnít have any plug ..
