Update: In the last three months (to 25 Feb 2015) the handling of the casks has fallen off a cliff here. They are apparently having issues with their line cleaner; the result is that most of their cask beers taste like chemicals, solvent...line cleaner. Itís a damn shame, really, as they are getting good beers on cask and then destroying them. Definitely not fair to the brewers. Also, the servers have not been aware of the issues with the casks when I return the beers. They agree with me that the beers taste off; but then the question is, who is doing the quality control? I really hope they fix this soon. It has gone on far too long. Previous score of 86 dropped down to 72.

Update: This place has really improved since opening (not that it was ever bad, mind). They are getting in a lot of beers not seen elsewhere in London, and their in-house brewery is now up and running. Quickly becoming one of my regular stops. (Original rating: 78. Revised up to 86.)

A very attractive pub with a solid range of beers. Something like six to eight casks and about 12 kegs. A few interesting things on tap (Camden, Sierra Nevada, Cotswold, Moor, Left Hand, Nogne O) though nothing that really blew me away. The bottle range has some rarities, including Sam Adams Infinium and stuff from Anchorage Brewing. Prices are decent, and you can order a 1/3 if you want, which is nice. They also have a very nicely laid out menu for all the beers, both draft and bottled, with prices. The pub itself is beautiful with plenty of indoor seating in addition to a few tables out front on the sidewalk and room out back in the garden. The food menu looked good but I didnít eat on my visit. Apparently this place will have its own beers in the coming months, so I will look forward to checking back for that.

I donít feel particularly well greeted when thereís tons of condensation all over all of the windows. Which were single-glazed, of course. If theyíre not going to invest in double-glazing or ventilation, that tells me theyíre not going to invest much in my comfort. Itís fairly simple inside, hard wooden benches and chairs, but not actually unpleasant - itís a boozer. Was rather full when I went there on a Sunday night, so a bit noisy. Apparently, Iím scarier to the locals than the locals are to me, which I guess is a good thing. I liked the nice clear beer list - great for people who donít like straining their eyes. Selection was very good, but Iím a little out of touch with the London scene, so donít know if it stands out. Service was at least adequate, they werenít going out of their way to assist, but it was a fairly busy night and I definitely have no complaints. One I wouldnít mind revisitting if Iím in this side of town again. Wasnít paying attention to the prices - it was cheaper than my usual foreign venue (Finland), and I didnít care, I was on holiday and treating myself.

Pretty empty when we visited, but it was just after new year. Nice place and decent selection of their own stuff, other UK beers and imports. Food was good too. Like the fact that they do thirds. Decent bottle list too.

Stopped by on a very busy Sunday afternoon. A couple of Earlís beers pouring and many guest taps. Bar staff were happy to pour tasters. Friendly vibe on a warm sunny day.

Visited for the first time on Thursday 21st Feb í13 between 5.15 - 6pm. Sinlge room with a central bar, seating area runs around either side of the bar. Wooden floors and benches. A big board to the left of the bar, as you face it, displays all the beers. Good concept - large tpye and easy to read. The rear beer garden looked nice but didnít venture out due to it being a little cold. To the business end - good choice of cask and keg, mixture of local London brewers, UK regional microís and overseas offerings. Decent enough bottle list but not overly exciting. When we arrived at 5.15pm we were the only people there, another 6 or 7 had arrived by 6pm, so I was a little surprised it was this quiet for a Thursday despite it being a little on the early side. A little too dimly lit for miy liking, difficult to see the colour of your beer at times! Service was fine but couldnít really fail bearing in mind we were the only punters on arrival! Ambiance defaults to 3 - Iíll give it another go on a busier night. CAMRA discount 50p / pint. Overall I liked this place, looks good, good range - just surprised how dead it was ! Update from 19/09/13. Visited around 5pm on a Thursday so still fairly quiet (2 other drinkers). I was in search of some of their own beers from the on site Earls Brewery. Chatting to the girl behind the bar she told me she had worked there for 5 weeks and at no point during this tenure had any of their own beers been available so donít necessarily expect to tick this brewery off via a visit. They do however have a live beers list you can check in advance of a visit online. Update Jan í15. Their own beers are now commonplace, often 2 or 3 on and the quality of these has risen markedly. However the quality of cask beer has been rather erratic on recent visits where more than one line has tasted of cleaning fluids. Score dropped from 76 to 72.

Been here a few times and walked the 10 mins from Angel. A good tap list here including beers from their own microbrewery. A new keg is put on on a Tuesday I think. Nice large single roomed pub, nice heritage decor. Have issues with the beer quality on 1 visit with the beer tasting of line cleaner, only happened once though. Staff werenít overly helpful then but have been good on other visits

Nice neat pub, selection wasnít too amazing however but it was sunday just after the weekend so I understand. Had some interesting beers on tap, good place to visit if youíre in the area. UPDATE Revisited last week. Mazing selection both on tap and bottle. Had their newest DIPA which was top. Really great unpretentious place, Will definitely visit again.

A brewpub located in central Islington just off the Regentís Canal. Two of their own beers were available at my visit. The beer board lists 18 different beers on keg and cask. Itís a medium sized, four-sided pub with the bar and a brewery plant in the middle. Rock, reggae and blues (Canned Heat) in the background. Crowed and rather noisy early on a Tuesday evening, mostly younger clientele. For dinner I had a delicious dish of Wintered Lamb with tzatziki. Friendly service with food and beer recommendations. Well worth drinking and eating here even though the pub obviously can be very noisy at times. Sister pub to Kings Arms in Bethnal Green and the rock venue/pub Black Heart in Camden (visited 23.09.2014).
