Beautiful ambiance and very kind staff. Amazing selection of De Molen beers. It was a pity I missed the tour of the brewery.

Very small brewery in Bodegraven a coulple of trainrides from Amsterdam.
Nice selection of beer, but prices is a couple of euros more than in A.
The pub and restaurant was closed when we where there, so double check availability before you go.
Well worth a trip.

Iím very sad to write this review. This place has changed so much over the years. I remember the first time I was there some years ago it was an amazing experience. The crew was very friendly, ambitious and knowledgeable about the brewery. I remember Menno was there and he even gave me a private tour through the brewery, while he was teaching one of his staff to do the guided tour. Also we got some great tasters and went home with some regular brews but also some special brews (which I think is something you might expect when visiting a brewery). Now sadly this place has changed in a very negative way... Staff is not friendly at all, they donít seem to care about what they sell, they are only interested in you if you want to buy things, the atmosphere is below freezing temperature and the shop, although offering a lot of nice beers from abroad, doesnít offer anything special from De Molen beers. Sad sad sad I wonít go back anytime soon (not that anyone cares about that ;) )

Beer shop has a good, but variable range. Relatively expensive. Restaurant is nice, but food average. Service friendly, but slow.

From April 2011 review
Peter Paul & Jose were fantastic hosts. Food was tasty and very reasonable. We didnít have a big look around but the drive in made Bodegraven look like a clean and beautiful town. We were debating stopping here on our way from Amsterdam to Belgium for the weekend. So glad we decided to take the time. We planned on lunch, a couple beers and a look in the bottle shop. A couple hours later and I left with a box full of goodies. We were there shortly after opening so were able to chat them up for quite a while. Bottles may be a bit high but they have plenty of unique offerings...sometimes you have to pay to play, right? they are building a new brewery 200 meters down the road so shouldnít really affect the set up. Going to start with viewing days for the new brewery I believe next week. Although, I hope they leave remnants from the old brewery because people need to see the small set up that they run with. Itís impressive in how small it is. A great way to start a beer-cation! Bring bottles to share with Peter Paul.

I went there with my girlfriend for a day trip. We both enjoy beer very much and we wanted to see the place where they come up with a new beer every few months. We were both impressed by the fact how small it is, considering their output. The people there must do some really judicious work.
While we were there a presentation on "how brewing works" was being conducted by the brewmaster, and we watched it while we got a taste of a series of De Molen beers in small taste glasses (0.20 cl iirc) It was great.
The price for the whole procession of beers was really good, also the food is not expensive for itís outstanding quality. They have a small shop where they sell their own beer and also a small but carefully chosen selection of Scandinavian and American beers.
Add to that a number of great "like your granny used to have" traditional Dutch products of the edible and drinkable kind, and you get a nice little store. The staff are nice and enthusiastic, even though the younger people seem to be more trained in being good bar/restaurant personnel than beer experts.
For the rest Bodegraven is as boring as a small town in the middle of Holland can be, even though it actually has strong historic roots, which are showcased around the town on municipal boards. It is one of those places, which once had great promise in old times but became forgotten when superseded by the modern age. In the beer landscape of the Netherlands - however - it is like a major metropolis. Go and see it if you can.
