80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 jmgreenuk (89) The Hague, Netherlands | September 11, 2012 Great beer, great service and great food. A super beer shop packed with hard to find beers too. What more could a man want? A lovely outside terrace too for when the sun shines. Try and make one of their second Tuesday tastings. It's well worth it! | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 abemorsten (103) Mosterøy, Norway | September 28, 2012 Enjoyed and purchased quite a few beers here during the first day of the 4th Borefts festival. Seems like a nice and friendly place that I’d love to visit again at a later date. | 80 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 lambic (60) Newton Poppleford, England | October 4, 2012 Visited during the 2012 festival. Great selection in the bottle shop and of course at the festival. Would like to visit on a non festival day and eat as I’ve heard the food is great. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 dec23 (12) Amsterdam, Netherlands | October 7, 2009| Updated October 10, 2009 I went there with my girlfriend for a day trip. We both enjoy beer very much and we wanted to see the place where they come up with a new beer every few months. We were both impressed by the fact how small it is, considering their output. The people there must do some really judicious work.
While we were there a presentation on "how brewing works" was being conducted by the brewmaster, and we watched it while we got a taste of a series of De Molen beers in small taste glasses (0.20 cl iirc) It was great.
The price for the whole procession of beers was really good, also the food is not expensive for it’s outstanding quality. They have a small shop where they sell their own beer and also a small but carefully chosen selection of Scandinavian and American beers.
Add to that a number of great "like your granny used to have" traditional Dutch products of the edible and drinkable kind, and you get a nice little store. The staff are nice and enthusiastic, even though the younger people seem to be more trained in being good bar/restaurant personnel than beer experts.
For the rest Bodegraven is as boring as a small town in the middle of Holland can be, even though it actually has strong historic roots, which are showcased around the town on municipal boards. It is one of those places, which once had great promise in old times but became forgotten when superseded by the modern age. In the beer landscape of the Netherlands - however - it is like a major metropolis. Go and see it if you can. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 Borresteijn (141) Amsterdam, Netherlands | July 10, 2011| Updated October 10, 2009 Visited on a Friday evening for dinner. This place looks very nice, has a cozy feel to it, lots of wood. Basically this is a restaurant with a (world class) brewery attached to it. Food was very nice, had gamba’s and some savoury snacks as a starter. Not cheap, same goes for the (excellent) beer. Beer shop is has a great selection, but way overpriced imo. Annual beer festival is a must visit. | 72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 Martinus (116) Nijmegen, Netherlands | April 8, 2011 Nice looking restaurant in a windmill. A nice and rustique looking brewpub is in the same building, which is were we were sitting.
Well worth visiting for the great selection of Molen beers on tap and bottle, and most (including me) can’t resist a small excursion to the shop in the building.
The only down side is that the staff is rather unknowing of the products or beer in general. Maybe this is because we were there on a quiet Sunday afternoon, but from friends I heard similar experiences. | 72 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 2/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 17/20 abcbeers (12) , Netherlands | September 7, 2010 situated in a monument, top selection of very good beers ,but do go with lots of cash, the prices are not cheap but you can pick up some exceptional beers | 70 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 beerlover73 (10) Marseille, France | October 5, 2009 nice place, good restaurant/pub. The beershop is very very little with a minimalist selection. The most popular De Molen’s beers are not available neither in the beershop nor in the restaurant | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 13/20 alethol (12) , Netherlands | January 26, 2013 Beer shop has a good, but variable range. Relatively expensive. Restaurant is nice, but food average. Service friendly, but slow. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 16/20 dreadnord (32) San Diego, California | January 15, 2012 Stopped through for a beer and got an intimate tasting in the charming little brewpup. The main brewery has moved across the street and what is left is a great restaurant and an awesome little bottle shop. Selection in the bottle shop is amazing for the Netherlands, you are bound to find some rarities in there. I had the stewed rabbit and it was magnificent. Prices are a little high for my taste, but that is pretty much the way it is across the board in the Netherlands anyway. Overall, this is a great place and I highly recommend it. |
