A pinnacle beer experience. Getting there is easy--a short train ride from Leiden, though my friend biked there from The Hague (2 to 3 hours with a rental bike, getting lost a few times). Iíd recommend eating here--Peter is a brilliant chef, offering beautifully composed plates with a rich vocabulary of flavors. The tasting room had five beers on tap, one a guest from Denmark, and of course any bottle is available in the restaurant. Peter and his wife (sorry, Iím terrible with names) are attentive, though when I was there the younger staff (the local teenage girls) were just learning the ropes of how to pour beers, with commensurate thin knowledge of the beer. The beer store is very good (Alesmith?!), though I was hoping to find a few more cellared, rare beers that are only available at the brewpub--though there are plenty of beers that are not available in the U.S. Prices are fair--it isnít like theyíre dirt cheap, because you have to pay for quality. All in all, I will long remember this visit as one of the best meals Iíve had, and certainly the best beer dinner ever. Save your pennies and spring for the food (30 euro for a three-course).

To start of, the ambience, just great.
Full stacked bottle shop, nice restaurant, lots of wood, direct view of the brewery, all very open and accessible. Nice. Had some beers from tap, very helpful staff tried to explain umami to me by a various array of sauces and other ingredients from the kitchen. Much appreciated! Then the shop, itís well packed with awesome beers at fair prices. Must visit more often.

Did a ítourí/tasting with a group of friends here. Perfect atmosphere to taste beer here. Beer offerings obviously based on their own brews. The little shop has high-rated imports as well, which can be expensive though. The restaurant serves well-prepared and tasty dishes that go well with their brews. Happy to let you visit their beer shop even after dinner.

Old: Very small brewery, but they where brewing, and the smell was excellent. Then got to taste 2 beers at the bar. The shop is very small, but they have some beers of different countryís. Beers that I didnít ever see in any shop here, so i bought like a dozen of beers to taste.
Edit:Had to change this review, and give some more points after the excellent beerfestival we had. Edit 2: Had to decrease a bit. Prices seems to rise, and we were a bit disappointed cause some little thing... And the shop is in the meanwhile bigger then the first time I was there.Still a very good selection also ofcourse.

Loz and I visited here 30-10-09 for their first beer festival and stayed in the camper at the second location just down the road. Really enjoyable place and despite the size an incredibly well stocked little beer shop with some absolute winners from some of the best brewers in Europe and further afield. It was difficult to get a really good feel for the place owing to it being the day of the beer festival, but all of the staff were very friendly and their own beer were as usual very good. Quite easy to find and well situated for an easy excursion if one is in Amsterdam or Utrecht as it really wasnít that far at all.

Visited this weekend for their first annual beerfestival. (I am hoping it is a first in a series.) It is a picturesque and functional location. The restaurant was closed so didnít get to sample--but will return. The shop was open and has a solid selection of craft beers from NL, Belgium, USA and Scandinavia. Nice to finally meet Menno, the brewer thatís been keeping us all excited.

I went there with my girlfriend for a day trip. We both enjoy beer very much and we wanted to see the place where they come up with a new beer every few months. We were both impressed by the fact how small it is, considering their output. The people there must do some really judicious work.
While we were there a presentation on "how brewing works" was being conducted by the brewmaster, and we watched it while we got a taste of a series of De Molen beers in small taste glasses (0.20 cl iirc) It was great.
The price for the whole procession of beers was really good, also the food is not expensive for itís outstanding quality. They have a small shop where they sell their own beer and also a small but carefully chosen selection of Scandinavian and American beers.
Add to that a number of great "like your granny used to have" traditional Dutch products of the edible and drinkable kind, and you get a nice little store. The staff are nice and enthusiastic, even though the younger people seem to be more trained in being good bar/restaurant personnel than beer experts.
For the rest Bodegraven is as boring as a small town in the middle of Holland can be, even though it actually has strong historic roots, which are showcased around the town on municipal boards. It is one of those places, which once had great promise in old times but became forgotten when superseded by the modern age. In the beer landscape of the Netherlands - however - it is like a major metropolis. Go and see it if you can.

nice place, good restaurant/pub. The beershop is very very little with a minimalist selection. The most popular De Molenís beers are not available neither in the beershop nor in the restaurant
