With mixed emotions, I am adding an offkey note to the ratings for de Molen. The place is stunning, situated on a commanding location that almost dominates the small, tidy, and prosperous town of Bodegraven. The beers were fantastic, and the shop was well stocked with interesting beers in addition to the incredible Molen beers. The only fly in the ointment was that one barmaid was left alone to provide service in the shop, in the restaurant, and behind the bar. Sabrina was very friendly and sufficiently knowledgeable, but she couldn’t be at all three places at once. We were informed that the owner was on vacation, so I hope that this situation was the exception rather than the rule. The fact that there were no natives in de Molen makes me think otherwise. Let’s all hope that we beer lovers continue to have a place like de Molen to love, instead of possibly losing it to a case of artistic success, but commercial failure.

Nice looking restaurant in a windmill. A nice and rustique looking brewpub is in the same building, which is were we were sitting. Well worth visiting for the great selection of Molen beers on tap and bottle, and most (including me) can’t resist a small excursion to the shop in the building. The only down side is that the staff is rather unknowing of the products or beer in general. Maybe this is because we were there on a quiet Sunday afternoon, but from friends I heard similar experiences.

One of the best brewpubs in Europe. One of my favourite brewers. Don´t mis their yearly borefts beer festival where they have a collection of europes best breweries present included the swedish hard to get brewery Närke! Excellent bottleshop.

This is a place worth going out of your way for. We were there at a very slow time and given excellent service by an incredibly friendly staff who knows their beer well. The bottle room is worth a visit on its own and is well-stocked with a few surprising treasures. The beer was reasonably priced, with only two disappointments out of about 15 that we tried (though none of their beer is bad!). The ambience, the service and the extraordinary craft beer makes de Molen an absolute must-see in Holland.

Great little brewpub, likely to expand a bit when the brewkit moves across the road. Excellent beer, great quality food selection. Prices in the shop are very much on the high side, especially for their own brands, but worth it for an occasional treat.

Simply amazing Dutch brewery with a world class selection of there own beers, a small but well stocked beer store and host of the yearly Borefts beer festival - the best I’ve been to. Don’t miss it!

Very small brewery in Bodegraven a coulple of trainrides from Amsterdam. Nice selection of beer, but prices is a couple of euros more than in A. The pub and restaurant was closed when we where there, so double check availability before you go. Well worth a trip.

Visited on a Saturday in November 2010. About one hour by train from Amsterdam, with one change of trains. Around five minutes walk from the train station in Bodegraven. Unfortunately, the bar was a chartered during my visit but the beer shop was excellent although some of the beers were cheaper in Amsterdam. Did eat a simple lunch, which was good. Very friendly service both in the dining room as in the beer shop. Would love to visit again when the bar is open.

Been here twice for Borefts 1 and 2. Nice little town (bodegraven) and this a picturesque windmill on the canal. Inside it’s a sprawling brewery with a functional wind driven malt delivery system! The beer shop is well stocked indeed but tiny and gets rammed at festival time. The food is very tasty and of a high standard. The range of beers on at the festival is not huge but is totally world class. It’s a great characterful place and if you visit outside fest time you still have great De Molen beers available and the beer shop. Very highly recommended. Avoid staying at the Tulip Inn in Bodegraven if you can. It’s clean and comfortable but very over priced and the few staff they have can be slow and in the restaurant - gruff!

Probably the best brewpub in Europe. Amazing selection, great atmosphere and the beer is always at the top.
