70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tkrjukoff (165) , Sweden | November 25, 2011 On a recidential side street, cosy small Pub with separate lounge and public house. 4 casks and 6 taps. Nice elderly pubowner and few locals. | 48 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 10/20 dynamiteninja (46) Richmond, England | January 24, 2011 Wadworth beers only, which are rubbish! Very expensive, but average prices for Reading. | 68 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 wheresthepath (47) , England | June 11, 2008| Updated September 10, 2008 A top notch traditional back street boozer, serving beers from Wadworths and their trial Pint Size microbrewery - five cask ales on when I was there (6X, Bishop’s Tipple, Henry’s IPA, Pint Size Mild and Horizon) and these do vary from time-to-time.
There’s a bijou patio garden, the whole place is very well kept,, the staff are friendly and there’s the surprise of one of the seats actually being a commode (I’ll leave you to discover which). The only downsides are (i) it only opens in the evening and (ii) as it’s a tied house, once you’ve tried the whole Waddy’s & Pint Sized ranges available you’re not going to get any other new beers. Nevertheless, this is really a top-notch example of the traditional British boozer, well worth a visit and nice enough to spend the entire evening in. Bring your mates though - it can be a little quiet otherwise! Re-rate - went back for food. Large menu of traditional pub grub (Lasagne, Steak & Ale pie, scampi etc). Portions are large, they taste good, and are astonishingly cheap for Reading - max price is £4.95 a meal. Nice one! | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 berkshirejohn (142) Bracknell, England | June 12, 2007| Updated August 10, 2007 An unspoilt back street pub, tucked away near the Royal Berks Hospital. A Wadsworth house with 3-4 of their beers available in cask, plus a cask cider and the usual range of kegs and bottles. Not the place to go to deliberately for food, but what they serve is just what you need to keep you going while you’re drinking. |
