Elizabeth Station introduced me to sours amongst other drops. They know their beers and the rapid changeover of taps means thereís always something new to try. They have a great range of take aways and it remains a novelty to be able to sit down for a quiet one in a well stocked bottle shop. Itís a unique idea and one that works well. The ambience is also such that itís a very friendly place to chat to the locals.

These guys have had such a great reputation for so long that it feels like I have been meaning to get here for probably longer than they have actually been open. Itís surprising to see a few great beers here that we really donít even get in Seattle--beers that probably have to come through Seattle on the truck before they land on these Bellingham shelves. Theyíre clearly running a first-class operation, so itís easy to see why theyíd land here.
You park in the lot and you think youíre heading in to the flower shop. Those are the first windows you see on your way to the door. ES is tucked in on the long side of the building, with more space inside than they have maybe even finished planning yet. You walk through a small group of picnic tables, then you see a long wall of coolers facing a deep, wide bar. The taplist is on a big easel out in room where you can see it, rather than craning your neck to look up at the wall. Brewery, style, ABV, all that info is right there. Itís a good lineup, with nice selections and nice variety across 16 (I think) taps.
The coolers are organized more geographically than stylistically--all the California beers, all the Oregon beers, and so on, but even that system may not be universally applied to every single shelf (which is fine; theyíre almost all interesting beers). Thereís a wine and cider room in back, and long rows of candy in between everything. You can cover a lot of cravings here.
The whole place has kind of a faux-Tuscan í80s feel to it, with arched doorways and tan sponge-painted walls. You donít even really notice unless you look; the lighting is nice, ceilings are high, and nothing is ever cramped. Theyíre really doing well with all the space they have in here. All the photos Iíve seen of it make it look chopped up and odd, but when you walk in, it feels welcoming and you could easily hang out for hours. We all walked out with multiple interesting bottles, and we each had a decent beer from the taps too. Canít wait to come back.

A great concept - browsing for bottled beer while drinking a tap beer. A fantastic place for Vancouverites to find excellent US and international beers not available north of the border.

Fabulous selection of bottled and kegged beers, which you can peruse while sipping a pint chosen from an always interesting selection on tap. Taps rotate frequently. Need more? Take some home in bottles, growlers, or kegs. This is truly a beer-loverís candy store. Typically packed with friendly blend of all ages from collage students to old Bohemian locals with their dog in tow. Food? Ambiance? Who cares. This is a beer place.
9/5/13 Update: Good news-they now have 15 or so beers on tap! Bad news-their prices for a pint have taken a big jump upwards, in a town where $3 pints of fantastic beer are available at least 2 nights a week. All ratings remain high, except "Value" dropped from 7 to 5.

This is a great concept that is available in a few other cities but the first I have seen in Bellingham. Part grocery, part cafe, part bottle shop and part bar it can easily adapt to fit your needs. Atmosphere is low only because with its flexibility comes a cost in environment. Just picking something up is more difficult with people drinking at the bar, and vice versa when you are drinking the constant wandering of customers is distracting. That said, it is pretty rustic and comfortable. Service is OK. Food is small sandwiches and although not bad, not enough to be a dining destination. Value is pretty good, with you being able to drink what you purchase without a markup. Overall this place works and if it werenít for the 3 drink maximum I could spend a long time there.

For me, itís the best place to go to if weíre not going all the way to Seattle. Cool little convenience store with a cereal bar and other food items (though I havenít eaten there yet...) in addition to beer and wine. Beer selection is awesome, and they have some taps to try out, or fill your growler with. The staff are super friendly, the pricing great, and though I have to pay taxes on it coming back before 24 hours, itís still worth checking this place out!

What an amazing selection! They sell some of the most obscure and fantastic beers that can be found. Several taps plus they can open any bottle or can. They should win awards for what they offer!

Great little gem of a store for a small town. Lots of great seasonals and rarer beers that I wouldnít have expected to be available in such a store. Reasonable prices and friendly service. Recommended if in the area.
