A cosy and welcoming traditional pub with two small rooms, only one of which has a bar. Thereís a great mural showing a bookcase with a fat cat grooming itself on the top shelf. There are more paintings of cats in the garden too. There are twelve hand pumps and the beers we had were in good condition. We didnít eat there but the food smelled good and wasnít expensive.

Visited several times, latest february 2015 with beery friends. Very local pub, a bit old and deco worn a bit out. The beers was served in good condition, and a ok selection as wll. Large beergarden in the back. Lots of cat related deco, and a painting that reminded me very much of my old cat :-) For sure worth a try, very close to other pubs in the area.

Solid boozer that had a great range of casks in top condition. Bar food is excellent.

One of the original real ale pubs in Sheffield and still one of the best. Not to be missed. A good range of Kelham Island beers and guests, good quality food lunch time and evening. Unbeatable.

Visited here on a Thursday tea time, on my way to the Steel City Beer Festival. Prior to this, I was last here over 10 years ago. I wondered if anything had changed. And the answer was no. Still the same drab, charmless interior. The same, boring brown session beers on cask. Hobgoblin with a flashing light pump clip, anyone?! The service, from the old lad I copped for, was so abrupt and miserable, it was laughable. If I visit again, in another 10 years, itíll be too soon. Skip this one. Itís been surpassed, long ago, by every other pub round here. Grim.

Itís a cracking boozer where the service was excellent considering the volume of folk. I canít rate a pub too highly when the only place to have a drink is on the pavement outside. You can have as much ale as you want but pubs can be too busy. Iíll be back and hope I can get there when itís a bit quieter.

Traditional tickers paradise. A good selection of casks all in good condition. Lots of rooms that were very full and we only just managed to find a much needed table in the beer garden after a full 12 hours plus of drinking. Great atmosphere. Very good pub to visit along with Kelham Island.

Traditional multi roomed boozer, visited on a Saturday evening and it was very busy, but still well worth the trek to the Northern part of Sheffield. Quite big beer garden, big selection of well kept cask beers. Friendly staff, ambience great.

Smallish pub in the valley of beer, one I remember fondly from years back. Quite an institution. There is a smaller range of beers than some but always seemingly in good nick. A must visit even for Sheffield.

A true gem, first proper pub in Sheffield and a total institution for real ale drinkers, always very busy, even the beer garden gets full, cheap home cooked food and a curry night compliments good value beers. Can find obscure hard to find micros in here, handpump only but a few German pilsners on draught. Steven and assistant manager Diane have been there since it opened in 1981, very helpful too
