Nice place where I sat at the smaller room where no food was served. Dark wooden interiour where they service the altbier directly from the wooden barrel. Came with a new beer right after you are done with your glass, nice one.

The Schumacher brewery and restaurant, on the edge of the inner city, an easy walk from the main station. Very nice traditional interior, lots of space. In the back is a courtyard that can be (partly) covered, behind that is the brewery. Altbier, plus Jung (a lighter version) and of course three times a year the Latzenbier, a stronger version. Recommended.

Excellent Altbier so nothing else needed if you’re a beer drinker rather than a ticker. The food is pretty good, although their Schweinehaxe doesn’t compare with that a Im Fuchschen. Although it is easier to collect your tick for Schuhmacher Alt at the Goldenen Kessel in Bolkerstrasse, this place merits a short hop on the U Bahn to Oststrasse.

I had a brief visit on June 2011. The place was crowded with locals enjoying the beer and nice atmosphere. I must say the Altbier was a bit too sweet for my taste. However, the place is still worth a short walk from the Altstadt.

Visited for lunch on Saturday March 13, 2010.
Had Eisbein for lunch, very tasty! Both the Alt and the Jung beers were very nice as well. Good service. Not too crowded on a fairly early Saturday.

This is the place to head when you arrive at the main railway station Dusseldorf Hbf. Predominately a resturant, it also has a small vertical drinking area to the left of the main entrance. When visitimg the toilets, have a peep outside at the impressive tower brewery to the rear of the building. The food is superb, easily the best of the town’s brewpubs. Many people in a rush miss out this pub as the same beer is available at the Goldener Kessel in the Altstadt, much more convenient for the other 3 classic brew pubs in town. I would suggest that it is well worth makimg the time to visit this place too, particularly to value the brew tower.

Typical German pub/restaurant. A bit more fancy than the brewpubs in the Altstadt. Mainly old people having a beer and meal. If you sit down the will immediately serve you a beer without asking. They have more stuff however on the menu. The food looked more than ok but I didn’t have any myself. Friendliness of the staff was ok.

A great old building with great beer. Went in on a Saturday morning in Sept ’07. Everyone else seemed to be an older regular. Enjoyed a couple beers but somehow felt rushed and almost unwanted. Maybe they were just too busy filling liters for take-away. I definitely recommend getting one of those.

We had a couple here before hiking into the Altstadt. It was a good thing, because its brother pub in the center was too packed later on. By stopping here first, we got to enjoy those nice beers amid some elbow room. The place is spacious also convenient to several hotels. An oompah band randomly marched through while we were there. Definitely worth a visit, and you can take a peel at the brewing kit in the back.
