Iíve been to this place once, and it already feels like olden days to me. Some places just slip over your feet like old slippers, set you down, and make you comfortable. Fiddlerís is such a place. Add to that the fact that I have been meaning to try this place for nearly a quarter-century and it was probably inevitable.
94th and 35th really isnít an intersection that bustles like mad, but getting here is pretty straightforward, since theyíre both major arterials (er, well, 95th and 35th both are). There is, in fact, a decent-sized fire station right across the street from Fiddlerís. Between people parking along the street, and the sirens, living here must get kinda noisy at times.
There are tidily-kept and very tall hedges shading Fiddlerís back from the street, creating a nice sense of privacy and getaway. Thereís a grandfathered old neon sign shaped like a fiddle over the front door on 35th. You walk in the front door, and it pulls a rope that raises and lowers a little violin back by the kitchen. This does not seem to alert the staff or anything, but maybe itís some kind of secret signal. In any case, itís one of those amusing little touches that great neighborhood watering holes accumulate through the years.
And the years really do matter here. Those hedges didnít just get planted last season. Thatís advanced landscaping that can only happen over time. This place has been around since 1980 (I think). Virtually all of that time, they have been a friend to the beer industry, serving kegs from small independent brewers, spreading the word about whatís happening in the craft beer revolution since back when the craft beer revolution was scarcely more than a couple underground splinter cells on the west coast (and a couple other places). Now the revolution has taken down the walls around the multi-nationals, and soon the castle will be ours. Like a wise old resistance commander, Fiddlerís holds sway over its hot corner, surveying the progress.
Theyíre still serving beers from the smaller locals breweries, digging up interesting pints you might not get most other places. They have a few bottles, I think, and some wine, I imagine. I focused entirely on the taps. Had a solid gose from NW Peaks--theyíve only done one or two beers better than that. Itís so cool that a style like gose that was almost extinct 10 years ago is now widely brewed in the States (Germany never let up on it completely, but even Germany was producing less and less, and exporting none, as of a decade ago). Now a decent anglo ale brewery like NW Peaks has a solid gose to offer. Thatís outside their comfort zone, but theyíre rocking it. And guess where you can get a pour? As of last night Fiddlerís (naturally) had it pouring through one of their faucets.
They have pizzas, sandwiches, some mountainous nachos, and other tasty-looking pug grub on offer. I will be back for some of that for sure. Finally crossed this place off my to-do list, where itís been sitting since before I was old enough to drink. Back then, I had a fraternity brother a few years ahead of me who bartended here. I always swore to come in and have a pint when I could. No idea where that guy ended up in life, but Iíll be back in here soon, tipping him or whoever it is behind the bar next time.

This place should have more ratings. Unassuming neighborhood bar. Okay food. Unexpectedly nice tap selection that nicely balances Pacific NW offerings with other great regional beers. Prices are good. Food isnít bad.
Overall, a very comfortable place to enjoy a few hours with food, friends, and drinks. Iím glad I live in the neighborhood, or else Iím likely to have missed this place.
There are occasional events that occur here, but youíre not likely to hear about them without stopping in regularly because webpage, facebook, and twitter donít really get updated that often. Also, it has the ambiance of a place that should allow my kid, but they donít (which is their choice and totally reasonable, and Iím not counting it against them in my review, but it means I donít go here that often, because itís not at the top of my list for "I have a night free and want to go out to drink beer" destinations. Itís more of a "I live nearby and itís a nice place to stop by on the way home from work or to grab a good beer and quick meal with my wife" kind of destination.)

MY favorite place in Seattle for a pint. Best outdoor, dog friendly beer garden in town. A dynamic beer list. Laid back staff, eclectic clientel.
Same owners as Latona and Hopvine. I like this place best, except that Fiddlerís food lags behind the others.

Very cozy and friendly place to enjoy beer, food, and music. Very good selections on tap and they rotate thru them quickly, so thereís always something fresh and new coming.

I canít believe this place isnít in the database --- but if it is was, I guess I would have found it before today.
Fiddlerís Inn is the closest thing to a English neighborhood free house that Iíve seen in the US -- not in the sense that it tries to be a faux-English pub, but in the sense that it perfectly adapts the neighborhood spirit and the passion for good local ales to the circumstances of the Pacific Northwest. The result is authentic, laid back, and entirely enjoyable. Tonight they had 11 beers tap: 10 excellent under-the-radar micros from Washington State, plus La Folie. (When I commented on this, the server raised the possibility that La Folie had brewed on Elysianís equipment, which would make the tap list 11 for 11 in-state.)
Food was good and plentiful, prices extremely reasonable ($3.50 for a schooner of La Folie!!). Really nice local feel. Iím very glad to be moving into the neighborhood.
Addendum: after many return visits, Iíve got only great things to say about this place. Tap list can be a bit IPA-heavy sometimes, which is not all bad when the IPAs in question are Pliny, SN Wet hop, etc, though I confess less excitement about Hales, Boundary Bay, and that sort of business. Plenty of unusual offerings (<10 ratings on the database, sometimes never rated before) and a high probability of finding the absurdly good Chuckanut beers filling their lager slot. My favorite Seattle bar by a country mile.
