66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 13/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | November 19, 2012 Visited for lunch on Wednesday 7th November ’12.
Medium sized place, lots of wood with some booths by the bar where 5 of us camped out for an hour.
Also an outside patio with covered roof for smokers.
Beers all from NOL - around 11 in total on tap. Picked up the sampler which was decent VFM, think it was $8 for 8 beers, could have been $10? 5 standard taps, a seasonal, then you got to choose 2 specials yourself.
Food was OK/AVE - had Mac’n’Cheese with crab, not a lot of crab and not the best Mac’n’Cheese but it filled a hole!
Service was fairly attentive but I got pissed off after querying my sample tray. I was served 2 porters instead of a CDA and a porter. We all smelt the beers and agreed they were the same. Waitress wasn’t having it, she told me what the initials CDA stood for and that it was supposed to be black - NO SHIT SHERLOCK ! I told her to taste it and smell it - she wouldn’t. She replaced it wth a sample of black beer that smelt hoppy and piney. This got me a little pissed, we all make mistakes, hold your hand up and don’t presume folks know feck all about beer styles!!!
I’d reccomend this place for a first time visitor in Portland to wrack up some rates, but I wouldn’t go back there, nowt wrong with the place but the beer was nothing particularly special and the food/service was average. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 soul11man (54) Portland, Oregon | August 14, 2011 Nice outdoor seating. Comfortable feel indoors. Great place to watch a soccer match. LOVE the $3.50 happy hour all day Sat. & Sun. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 BrewDad (408) Olympia, | July 15, 2011 Finally made it to this place after years of trying. They have a great tap list and the brewery was kick ass to see. Next to the New Old Lompoc this is a must see in the Portland tours. Fun place to people watch that’s for sure. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 17/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | June 22, 2011 Smallish place, covered patio/deck on the side. Very laid back mood. Good service. Lots of New Old Lompos stuff which were all very tasty. Food was above average pub grub. Worth seeking out. | 60 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 troopie (63) Munchen an der Willamette, Oregon | June 3, 2009 This is part of the New Old Lompoc kingdom. It’s in a former auto parts shop but has been remodelled. On warm days it’s airy, and comfortable, and there’s a covered patio. Food is Ami bierpubkos, nothing really bad, but not really outstanding. They have all the New Old Lompoc beers, and some seasonals, a Belgian Stout, a Helles and a Belgian dark. Macros in bottles. Service is fast, but rather mechanical. It is a good place for people watching, and the hipster, too cool to car about anything mob hasn’t invaded it. Parking is on the street |
