Been there a few times now and never reviewed ... If it was closer to home it would be a regular (every evening??) stop. Terrific range of taps with both variety of styles and regular turnover for newness. Sharp bartenders who know their stuff, including great glassware.

This little gem has been in my town for years and I was finally able to try it.
First to catch my eye was the lights it was decorated for madri gras and looked fabulous. Of course next was the massive bar that at the time had 28 different draft beers which included bells java stout on cask. It had ayinger celebrator, delerium, duchese de bourgonge, bells porter and of course my light beer beamish. I had a couple of apps fried asparagus and crayfish enchilidas. i was so impressed with the food, i tried the recommendation of the bartender Queso fundido with his beer recommendation of stiegle and wow. I like pils but with this spicy dish it was incredible. I will never let my wife pick a place to eat in this area again, we will only go to the firkin.
The Firkin is one of my favorite bar restaurants and a beerloverís dream. The place has 28 taps, most of which are imports or micros. In addition, the Firkin features cask beers and has one or two new ones every week. As I am a frequent customer of this place, the knowledgeable and friendly staff members stop by to tell me whatís new in their beer offerings and bring over new beer samples for me to try. The menu is very impressive (try their caribean pork sandwich) and rotates on a season basis. This past summer, Firkin (together with the homebrewerís group Brewers on the Bluff) sponsored a bus trip to the Great Taste of the Midwest which was attended by beer loving customers like me. No beer loverís trip to Illinois is complete without a visit to Firkin.
Big fan of the Firkin, try to hit it at least once a month, and follow it on Face book as they let you know whenever they tap something "rare" or special.
I gave it a 15 on selection because if you canít find a drink your looking for with 30 taps and generally about 50 bottles which cover a wide range of style, seasonalís one offs, domestic, and imports than you might need to be a touch less picky.
Firkin is a trendy place in a very nice downtown area. A great place for a date night (if your not looking for intimate) during the summer with a rose garden across the street.
The only knock is the prices on food are a touch steep. That being said I have never really quabled as the quality is always very good.
I live 30 Min. away and make a point to stop in frequently.
Fantastic selection on tap. A lot of rare or odd brews for a wide variety of breweries. Staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and more than willing to lend you a helping hand if there were questions on a brew. Quick service and food service (only had desserts this time but I didnít see it different for the people eating in) was excellent with constant check ups and faster than normal delivery of food. Desserts were fantastic! My wife enjoyed the selection of Sprecher soda on tap since she doesnít care for beer. Decor of the place was very relaxing
I used to work at the bar down the street from here. When the firkin would close I would get all their bartenders drunk. 5 years later Iím coming back to my hometown and enjoying this bar in a whole new light. Lovely atmosphere with a gorgeous ornate wood bar. A phenomenal beer list considering most bars in the area consider sapporo and pranqster amazing "craft" beers. If youíre in the suburbs of Chicago you MUST visit the Firkin. Also, amazing and very knowledgeable bar staff. Ask for Dave...heís amazing.
