Appears to have been renovated to replicate a rather sterile gastropub of sorts. Canít say I felt comfortable drinking a pint here. A few guests but all were London breweries...and the prices reflected that. I didnít pay too much attention to the food menu but looked like there was some good options.

The renovation is pretty horrible. Itís as if Okellís tried to make it as soulless an experience as possible. (If so, theyíve done a good job). While the beer selection wasnít great (many of the handpumps were not in use), the Okells beers are always pretty fantastic. Basically if not for the beers you wouldnít see me for dust. However, the beer is incredible, and certainly worth the naff atmosphere.

Just an average bar for me. The choice was ok, but nothing really interesting. Had Thornbridge Jaipur on tap. The place does not feel cosy. Was crowded and full of people. Felt a bit like sitting in a big restaurant.

A big, sprawling bar that seems to be undergoing an identity crisis; it is at once pub, craft beer bar and sports bar, but it does neither of the three especially well. There were around eight casks on during my visit, including some Okells, but nothing too exciting. They also have some craft stuff on keg in addition to the normal macro keg options. And then they do have crafty bottles. There is some pub decor but it feels artificial and sterile. Average pricing, more or less. Might have an interesting beer on tap but not a highlight for Liverpool.

very well kept cask beer, good selection from yorkshire, cheshire and merseyside, selection of bottles including german beers and schneider weisse/brooklyn kegs. lovely old listed building (former bakers/confectioners) and the roast dinners smelled great (not sampled on this visit)

Visited in januar 2012 on our pre-winter-ale-pubcrawl.. Large pub, with a loooog bar. 8 cask pumps with well conditioned beers. Nice music and a lot of wodden panels. This is really a cosy place to come to have a pint and relax...

Large, spacious, wood panelled pub. Very quiet on a tuesday afternoon when we visited. Excellent range of real ale. Pleasant staff and although I didnít try the food it looked like awesome pub grub, scouse and chip butties.

Originally Kirklandís Bakery, then reputedly the first wine bar in Liverpool in the 1970s, the Fly in the Loaf is now an Okells pub with eight interesting hand pumps, 5 keg taps and perhaps 10-20 bottles. All the beers we had looked good and were well kept. The conversion from bakery to wine bar to pub has been done sympathetically to the attractive original frontage. Thereís a long, high bar with the bottles neatly arranged on dark wooden shelves with mirrors behind. Itís quite spacious and was eerily quiet when we were there on a cold Monday evening in January. Incidentally, this area of town seems still to be ďin transitionĒ. For example, just opposite the Fly in the Loaf is what used to be OíConnorís, a tavern frequented by luminaries such as Alan Ginsberg, before it morphed into the less auspicious Chaucers disco; today it is a fancy dress shop called Lili Bizarre.
