70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 11/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | September 27, 2011| Updated October 9, 2011 If you’ve seen one Flying Saucer you’ve seen them all. Lots of wood and polished brass and plates as far as the eye can see. Apparently if you drink something like 200 different beers you get a plate with your name on it and the chance to write something pithy. Tons of taps lots of bottles. Nothing too out there although they had a number of local taps which is always appreciated. The food was solid although insanely overpriced. I got like 8 wings for $8 and we’re not talking Quaker steak here. As mentioned in the previous post the fact that the waitresses are all required to dress like 13 year old reform school students with barely there skirts is off putting. I think we can all enjoy craft beer without the environment of casual sexism. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 TURDFERGUSON (147) Carrboro, North Carolina | August 15, 2011| Updated October 9, 2011 Been here a few times after WBF and for special events. Big selection, which is nice, but only a few that stand out for this beer knurd. Waitresses are required to wear sexy little mini skirts which is nice when you are drunk and seems more sexist when you’re sober. Very bustling and busy which is a little off-putting for me, but I understand. Lot of rabbits hopping around Raleigh making babies. Cheese fries are also delish when drunk. | 72 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 14/20 BeerSnobBob (11) North Carolina | July 15, 2011| Updated October 9, 2011 Big selection. Atmosphere is a little bare, but has a good feel. | 82 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 emacgee (60) Chapel Hill, North Carolina | July 7, 2011| Updated October 9, 2011 Pretty huge draught selection. The waitresses outfits pander to boner-ism to an almost annoying degree. They have some pretty cool events and the foods not half bad either. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 12/20 rael (7) Cary, North Carolina | June 19, 2011| Updated October 9, 2011 If you don’t like having attractive young waitresses serving you all kinds of interesting brews -- don’t visit the Flying Saucer.
The FS is hands-down the best selection of beers in Raleigh metro area. $3 draughts on Monday is a great deal -- also, ask your server about the UFO club.
The wait staff is comprised of attractive college-age young ladies -- at least one of them is knowledgeable about beers.
The food is better than expected -- try the brat-pretzel or the goat cheese pizza. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 bensbrews (10) North Carolina | January 24, 2011| Updated October 9, 2011 A ridiculous amount of beers on tap. I have been going to this location since 2004, and they keep changing up the lines and offering new and exciting beers. Their keep the glass night is fun and sometimes are very unique. Can’t beat their 3 dollar pint night on monday and sunday is NC beers are 3 as well as brunch for beer knurds is free! Well worth the drive if you are even remotely close by. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 JCB (174) Durham, North Carolina | November 19, 2010| Updated October 9, 2011 I’ve no idea how many dozens of times I’ve been here since moving to NC a decade ago, but it’s a lot, Jack. And it’s always been a reliable place to bend the elbow, even before the local beer scene heated up. Dark wood ambiance, long tables, not too obtrusive telly presence, and tons of breweriana. Food is perfunctory at best but the service has always been good. Usually a terrific selection of state, national, and international craft, with a smattering of rarities at any given time. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 14/20 KajII (3) Macon, North Carolina | August 31, 2010| Updated February 1, 2011 A great place for as they say "The Beerknurd". Awesome selection of brews but needs more selections on the food menu. I will say that the staff is well versed in beer knowledge and very friendly and helpful!! | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 NobleSquirrel (200) Chicago, Illinois | August 28, 2010| Updated February 1, 2011 On the way to Charleston, stayed over in Raleigh and had to stop here. Damn cool place with a ton of local beers. About 50 taps or so and plenty of sampler options. The bartenders and manager were awesome, had a great time and will definitely have to stop back through. Food is pretty damn good as well. | 96 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 rob_beerknurd (4) North Carolina | June 29, 2010| Updated February 1, 2011 Until Flying Saucer, I never really had a favorite bar. This place is now my "Cheers". Great beer selection, great beergoddesses, and good food. The only downside to the food is no burgers on the menu. On Sun. NC beers on tap for $3 and free brunch for beerknurds. I’ve got my 2nd plate on the wall and I’m working on number 3. |
